The Cranberries- Irvine Meadows, Irvine Ca 8/31/95 xfer f/DAT Master Audience tape w/Coresound Mics

I was going to share a Brent Best soundboard tape in honor of his birthday tomorrow, but It is in a spot I can’t access. Can’t wait to get this cast off my arm.
Instead, here is a mediocre recording I did from the last show I attended at Irvine Meadows. I remember that the opener (Toad the wet Sprocket) sounded way better- but I don’t see that recording on my list. Where did it go? Why did I even go see this show? I was not a huge fan and irvine was not close to home (Whittier). What does “1lt flt may cause postponement” on the ticket stub? So many questions.
I did my best to EQ this thing but it is still pretty bassy and muddy sounding. The curse of coresound mics in a big venue.

The Cranberries- KROQ Almost Acoustic Xmas, Universal Amp L.A. 12/12/93 DAT Master xfer Live

A couple bands played both nights at the acoustic xmas 1993 event- I think The Cranberries and Belly were the only 2. Here is night 2 from The Cranberries.

Over the next few weeks (weekdays), I will be posting sets from the 1993 Almost Acoustic Xmas. On the night of Dec 11th, I was driving to grab dinner for the family and I turn on KROQ and I hear that they were broadcasting the entire show live on the radio! I listened to KROQ regularly back then and did not recall any advertising for the broadcast. I hauled ass back home and grabbed a DAT and started recording. I was broke back then, so I have these sets scattered over about 5 DATs. I think I only lost a couple minutes of one set due to tape change- General Public. I even was able to edit in the interviews from other sections of the tape. The Blind Melon interview is a sad foreshadow of their future.
Anyway, hope you enjoy these. I became a fan of at least a few of these bands through this broadcast.

The Cranberries- KROQ Almost Acoustic Xmas, Universal Amp, L.A. 12/11/93 DAT Master xfer Rock Live

Here’s another one of the bands that made me a fan after their acoustic xmas 1993 set. I heard the hit on the radio and liked it OK, but the rest of the album played acoustic really shined. I ended up seeing them on my birthday (with Toad the Wet Sprocket opening!) in 1995 at one of the big amphitheaters in socal.

The Cranberries- Cattle Club, Sacramento Ca 9/23/93 xfer f/1st gen casette-DAT Complete Show

Here is our Patreon voter’s Choice for this week. Actually, it was a 3 way tie and instead of posting them all or only picking what I like, I thought about what people would want to hear. This one was the obvious choice in that case.

I lived in L.A. at the time of this show, so I didn’t tape it. I got it on DAT from Mike Siou- Mike, can you let me know who taped this so I can give credit?

This one didn’t sound too good, but I was able to fix it up a bit with EQ and Izotope. It’s listenable now.
