Tank- Salle des Fetes du Grand Parc, Bordeaux France 11/23/84 xfer f/master audio cassette Algy Ward

I decided on this one for today’s On This Date in history. The 3 bands I really wish I could have seen were Iron Maiden (w/Dianno), Riot (w/Speranza lineup), and Tank. I don’t think that any of these incarnations made it to northern california. I had heard that Algy’s health was failing a bit with hearing issues and all, but I was ready to go ANYWHERE to see them. Then he passed a couple years back, so I’ll never see him. Not going to see fake Tank or fake Riot, sorry.
This is a mediocre audience tape from when they opened for metallica for a run of dates in 1984. What a show that would have been- Metallica on the Ride the Lightning tour and Tank on the Honour and Blood tour. Damn, wish I could have been there.

Got this in trade, right off the master recording

Tank- Woolich, London England 5/21/81 xfer from unknown gen cassette rebalanced R.I.P. Algy Ward

I woke up today to awful news, making this an even more mediocre Monday than usual. Algy Ward from one of my all time favorite bands, Tank, passed away. I have loved their albums (especially those first 4) for about 40 years. I never got to see the band perfoem- I had recently said that I would fly anywhere in the world to see a set by them… well, that’s not happening. Damn.
Algy had an amazing early career- starting with The Saints, then moving over to The Damned when they were at the top of their game, then starting Tank. They then put out 4 great albums, broke up after the 5th, and then he seemed to lose momentum. I bought all the box sets and later releases but no US tours. I do have the one video from Boston on my website/channel, so check it out if you are interested.
This appears to be a live FM broadcast- especially since the MC appears to call the crowd a bunch of c*nts after Tank’s performance (!).
I did everything I could to fix the quality- I took to Izotope Rx8 and de-fluttered it(it had some nasty high end flutter), then rebalanced it and boosted guitar and bass. It’s still kind of a mess, but I enjoyed it.
