Hotbox- KZSU Live in Studio?, Stanford Ca 6/8/00 xfer f/ band archive DAT Master/Clone Barry R.K.L.

Another day, another mysterious tape from a collection. This one comes from Barry Ward’s collection, and is labeled like you see in the photos. But this does not sound like a KZSU live in-studio thing at all. Even more mysterious is the gaps between songs. one gap was 8 minutes of silence! The tape is marked live & interview. There is no interview. I tried shazam’ing the songs and only one appears to be released- “Wake the Dead” from Hotbox’ The Salad Days album.
Hotbox had 2 former R.K.L. bandmates- Barry and Chris Rest along with Mel Chappell and Warner Harrison.

Donner Party- KZSU live in studio, Stanford University, Ca 2/15/89 xfer from low gen tape Quasi

On this day in history- February 15.
I “discovered” Donner Party in April of 1989- they headlined a show at UC Davis Coffeehouse and I had gone to see opener Jonathan Segel. They blew me away when they started playing. Have you ever heard a band play and you just knew that they would be one of your favorites forever? That has happened a few times for me and that was one of them.

As I was gearing up to bug the hell out of the band and follow them around, taping every show, I learned that they broke up. They all fell off my radar until I got on the internet in 1997 and learned that Sam Coomes moved to the pacific northwest and started a new band called Quasi… and now I bug the hell out of them, taping every show in the area! Haha.

But seriously, give this band a listen. The best band you’ve never heard.
