KZAP- Gordo’s Commercial Reel #29, Sacramento Ca 9/13 to 10/24/78 xfer from master reel

Here is a real treat for you KZAP and Sacramento history fans, and a big WTF for the rest of you probably. Haha. This is part of Dennis Newhall’s collection of tapes he dropped with me. Back in the old days, instead of everything being digital and an easy button push, you actually had to cue up LP’s to play on the radio. When it was time for a commercial, you had to cue up the commercial on the reel to reel deck.
This is a reel of over 40 commercials from back in the 70s. You get to hear from local favorites like the Shire Road Pub, Sacramento Raceway, Oasis Ballroom, and Jumbo Market. I listened to the entire thing while digitizing it- it’s a lot of fun and pulled some very nice memories for me.

Airborne- Shire Road Pub, Sacramento Ca 1970s xfer from low gen soundboard tape

It’s collections time! On This Date later today because I forgot to prep it.
This is from Dennis Newhall’s collection of archival Sacramento recordings- this one is once again from Shire Road Pub. The SRP was the rock club in suburban Sac/foothill farms for the 70s and 80s. The building is still there, the roof is missing but it looks like there might be some construction happening there…

This one has a little hiss, but Izotope’s spectral denoise did the trick.

Loomis Rumor- Shire Road Pub, Sacramento Ca 11/29/73 xfer from band archive soundboard tape-CDR

Collections post from Dennis Newhall today. I look forward to these collections posts, as they are truly Sacramento Music history. I have wanted to post a tape from Shire Road Pub since I started the website- it was the club that I was too young to get into. I remember standing on the sidewalk outside of the place when Ginger Baker played there.

There is not much info on Loomis Rumor on the web and I was pretty shocked to find this flyer which is the Shire Rd calendar for the month of this show- thanks Jim Fox and archive dot org.
