Rollins Band, Henry Rollins, Biohazard- MTV 120 Minutes 5/15/94 xfer from VHS Master Tape

Here is an oldie from Gary Shurtleff’s collection. The rollins band performance is on YT, but not the complete thing with interview AND Biohazard interviews and footage from the studio. 33 minutes of 120 minutes goodness!
Video is blocked in Syria, Iran, Cuba, North Korea so if you live there, you’re outta luck. Sorry.

Live Performance Video

Rollins Band- First Avenue, Minneapolis Mn. 8/3/92 Audio only xfer 2nd gen cassette FM Soundboard

This one seems to be a local radio station’s live broadcast of a show at first ave. That’s odd, I don’t recall this being a regular thing with this station and I traded with enough folks from Minneapolis to know..
I like how it appears like they gave the show an hour time slot. Once that hour is up, Rollins gets the hook- on air at least.
Looking back, Rollins Band just smoked. I wished I had seen more shows with them back then.

Audio Live Concert

Rollins Band- KDOC Request Video, Anaheim Ca 7/23/92 xfer from master VHS tape Enhanced Henry

It’s Friday! Yaaay. Here is another nice quality KDOC Request video performance, courtesy of Todd Nakamine and his collection of VHS tapes. I had a copy of this, but mine suffered from screen jitter. This one looks so much better. Sounds great, too- the sound on that Vandals KDOC performance was so so, this one is totally dialed in. Thanks Todd and Gia!
Lots of respect to Rollins for walking away from performing music when there was nothing left in the tank, then reinventing himself in other areas. Maybe I can do something like that someday.

Live Concert Video

Henry Rollins Band- Lollapalooza, Shoreline Amp, Mt View Ca. 7/26/91 Audio xfer from DAT Master

Back to the DAT project- here is DAT #4. I posted the Nine Inch Nails show a while back, I’ll be posting most of the sets- at least until my DAT batteries conked out.
This was the first big show I taped with the DAT- I got it less than 4 weeks before the show. I was all stressed out with trying to sneak the gear in (I could not get a D6 in for a show in 1989), but it was easy. I snuck in the TCD-D3, 2 battery packs, Sony ECM-909 mic, Marantz PMD-430, 2 nakamichi CM-300 mics, and a hundred feet of mic cable. We put the battery packs in the bottom of snack cracker boxes, and the PMD430(which is HUGE) rolled in a blanket. So funny.
I was super sick at the show, so you can hear me coughing at times.

Audio Live Concert

Rollins Band- Kennel Club, San Francisco Ca 4/29/88 xfer from master audio tape

I saw this tape in Wayne Vanderkuil’s box of tapes and had never seen/heard it anywhere before. I didn’t know until after I digitized this, that Wayne taped it. It was one of the last shows that he recorded.
Rollins claims that this is the first time that the band played in California. I know that they practiced and formed back east- New Jersey I think. That’s some pretty cool history. Thanks Wayne!
This is a killer set. It seems like they played longer than usual- this cuts at 90 minutes!

Recorded by: Wayne Vanderkuil- I think he used a Sony WMD3 in later years

Audio Live Concert

Rollins Band- Mississippi Nights, St. Louis Mo. 6/3/87 Multicam TV xfer from studio master

Here’s another mississippi nights video. I remember Jim telling me that a lot of the 1/4″ umatic tapes “walked away” from the station, so these 1st gen VHS copies may be the best remaining versions.
This Rollins show is intense- it’s pretty amazing to see the energy he puts into these early shows for 80 minutes! Damn.
This came from KDHX directly- this is a VHS tape right off of their 1/4″ master tape. Huge thanks to Jim Utz & Dede Schofield for giving these to me 20ish(30?) years ago.
