Ride- Live in studio on Rodney on the Roq, KROQ-FM 7/25/93 xfer from DAT FM Master Recording

This one is a nice memory- Cameron, my first son had just been born the day before and I had been at the hospital for a few days straight. I ran home to get some rest and Rodney was on, announcing that Ride was going to be live in the studio. I hit record on the DAT machine and crashed out. I am so glad I recorded this because it is awesome! Many songs acoustic.
The highlight of this one is when 2 teenage girls call in and they are bickering back and forth while on the air! Ride (I think it was Andy) asks them “have you ever heard of Beavis and Butthead (because they sounded a lot like them) and they did not get the joke at all! It was hilarious!!
Anyway, I can’t recall if I ever traded this, so it may be uncirculated.
I hated a lot of things about L.A. when I lived there, but radio and live music scene was excellent.

Audio Live Concert

Ride- Slim’s, San Francisco Ca 5/23/92 xfer from master soundboard cassette-DAT Rebalanced Shoegaze

For today’s on this date in history. I pulled out a DAT that my friend Michael Siou sent me about 30 years ago. Ride allowed him to tape through the soundboard, which kinda blows me away. I asked to video the Cattle Club show in 1991 but was shut down. Mr. Siou is the man for making this one happen.

The guitars- both the bass and the 6 string- we a tad low in the mix, so I fixed it up in Izotope Rx8. I like it better, hope you like it as well.

Ride- Club Lingerie, Los Angeles Ca 4/13/91 xfer f/1st gen VHS tape Andy Bell Mark Gardener

It’s a BONUS post for you on this fine Monday. This was last week’s Patreon voter’s choice. I really thought that the Old 97s video was going to win it, but Ride came out on top. This week, we are voting for an uncirculated Cattle Club show. Yep, there are still more recordings from Cattle to post. Sign up to Patreon- link below. It’s fun, it’s tax deductibe, and it’s the time of year to scramble for deductions!

This one wasn’t as bad as I remembered. I recalled it being super dark and the audio being distorted beyond listenability. It’s actually pretty well lit- only the drummer is dark. The audio only distorts badly when the vocals are peaked. So, not terrible.

Live Concert Video

Ride- Cattle Club, Sacramento Ca. 4/6/91 direct xfer from master tape

This show is a bit of a mystery- either Jason Ellis or I taped it (audio only, they would not allow video), but we can’t rember who taped it and with what equipment. He had a Sony WMd6C at the time w/ECM909 microphone. I had a Marantz PMD430 and Nakamichi CM300 Microphone. Ride sounds like a PMD430 recording (sounds nice with some high end phasing) while the lush sounds like a D6 recording (Lush were always so midrangey that the Sony/909 tapes sounded less than stellar). Anyway, I hope you enjoy the show- this is for Chris Macias and Dennis Yudt.
