RKL- Secret Studios Music Annex Demos, San Francisco Ca 12/14/93 f/Band Archive DAT R.K.L. Rich Kids

Post from Barry Ward’s amazing collection today. It looks like Secret Studios was primarily a rehearsal spot, but RKL apparently did some demos there back in the 90s.

I had guessed 1994 for the date on this session, but the actual tape had 12/14/93. They kicked all of this out in a day! Wow.

I could probably rebalance this, but I like keeping this one as recorded. It’s clearly a rehearsal demo.

RKL- Slovenia 1993 xfer from band archive DAT Soundboard w/Bomer on vocals. R.K.L. Rich Kids on LSD

Here’s one from Barry Ward’s collection. I had posted the other show from this DAT a few months ago and labeled it as “Slovenia/barcelona”, but this one is definitely the Slovenia show.

The bass was pretty overwhelming in the mix, so I rebalanced everything else upward to make it sounds a little better. Bomer’s vocals were really loud in the mix and soft seconds later. It sounded like he wasn’t singing into the mic consistently. I did my best to make it sound decent.

Audio Live Concert

RKL- Garatge Club, Barcelona Spain July 1993 xfer f/ band archive Soundboard DAT

Alright, the audience participation worked! Thanks for your feedback! That last post was the “Live at a Dive” with a very different mix. I’ll hide that one since it is commercially available and share this one next.

The odd thing about this one is that the tape lists “Slovenia + Barcelona 93”. This is the 2nd show on the tape, so you would assume that it is Barcelona.. but is doesn’t match the video I posted a while back at all. So, probably Slovenia? I guess we’ll find out when I post the other part of this tape next month.

Anyway, it sounds fantastic and starts with Jason baggin on Bomer, so be prepared!

RKL- Hard Copy Raw Interview, Live in Torrance, Bogus(Bonus) Interviews xfer f/Band Archive VHS Tape

Today’s video collections post comes from Barry Ward’s pile of VHS tapes. I was thinking of separating these but it was kinda fun just watching the entire thing.

The first part appears to be raw interviews from their appearance on Hard Copy. One of those “how the sausage is made” raw TV videos- it’s a fun watch. I think the live in Torrance is part of Hard Copy’s raw footage as well. The Bogus interviews is the guys screwing around at home. There was more, but there was some X rated magazine being filmed that I had to cut. The audio is distorted on the Bogus Ints source tape.

Rich Kids on LSD- World Beat Center, San Diego 1993? xfer f/band archive VHS tape RKL R.K.L.

In anticipation of tomorrow night’s show in SF, here is another one from Barry Ward’s collection. ABOUT YESTERDAY’S RKL POST– the band asked me to take it down. They might have something exciting planned with it, so stay tuned. If you happened to rip the audio before is disappeared, please keep it to yourself. Don’t be a dick and repost it. The band is totally cool and they need it offline. OK?
This 2 camera, soundboard audio video was recorded around the time that Reactivate was released. It’s funny because I thought that Bomer sounded like Bon Scott here, and then they do an AC/DC cover at 24:00. Cool.
This might be from the World Beat Center in San Diego. I lived in L.A. around the same time and that graffiti artwork backdrop looks familiar. I am running with that assumption unless someone tells me I am wrong.
PS: Look at Chris Rest’s glorious curly long hair on this one. Barry’s too, but I don’t think I have seen Chris’ hair like this before.

R.K.L.- Practice/Rehearsal for Riches to Rags 1993/94 xfer from band archive cassette Rich Kids LSD

Here’s another really cool one that I found when moving Barry Ward’s tapes- an instrumental rehearsal session from the Riches to Rags era. These sound different than the versions that Barry posted on his channel a few years ago (BK Ward- you should all subscribe)

RKL- Austria 1989? Xfer from band archive soundboard cassette Rich Kids on LSD R.K.L.

I pulled this tape out of Barry’s stacks of tapes a while back and finally got to it today. The mix was not great, but Izotope was able to improve it a lot- sounds great now! This is obviously not complete and the 30 min of the show was split over sides A and B, with Fishbone (the band) recorded before and after it. Bizarre!
This could be from the Spielboden venue, in Dornbirn Audtria 5/6/89. Did not have time to match up the between song dialog with the videos on youtube.

R.K.L.- Demo Master xfer from band archive cassette tape Rich Kids on LSD

Since RKL is touring Europe right now, I figured I would post this one… but don’t get too excited about it, despite the title. This appears to be a collection of unreleased average quality live tracks and studio versions of songs that appeared on official releases. I Shazam’d a couple of them and they were on that Mystic Records comp released in the late 80s.
At least the cassette artwork is cool. I assume that is Barry’s handiwork.

RKL- Garatge Club, Barcelona Spain 1993 w/Jason Sears show xfer f/ band archive VHS Rich Kids on LSD

Barry Ward gave me a few boxes of tapes a couple years back, and he had this and one other VHS tape marked as a priority. It was in PAL format, so I don’t think he was able to get it digitized until now.
After a LOT of trial and error with Virtualdub, I was finally able to find the right settings to capture this PAL tape. (side note- the higher end the gear, the more manual it is to get set up)
I can’t tell what the writing on the tape says except “RKL” and “Spain”. I thought it said “Garabethe” but there is no venue or city of that name. Maybe “Garage The”? Anyway, hopefully Barry can fill in the blanks around venue, city and date.
RKL is back and they have a bunch of shows scheduled with new vocalist Abe Brennan. Today marks the 19th anniversary of Jason Sears’ passing. R.I.P. to a true legend.

RKL- Old European show(s), xfer from band archive VHS R.K.L. Rich Kids on LSD

Since I am heading out the door to see RKL today, here is some old footage from Barry’s collection of VHS tapes. This one was labeled “Another Old RKL Video Not Transferred from PAL”. So I pull out the trusty PAL VCR.. and the tape is super damaged. The top part of the tape is totally serrated. I tried to play it about 5 times and realized the tape was degenerating quickly, so I just ran with what I could get. The screen does stop flipping about 5min in. The band in the middle of the screen does not stop. Oh well. Hardcore fans only I suppose.
