God Lives Underwater- Respectable Cafe, Miami FL 4/27/96 xfer from Hi8 Master Enhanced

Here is another one from Steve Rogers’ amazing batch of Hi8 tapes. This one is a bit of a mystery. This show was an American Recordings showcase, with Slayer headlining. All of the other bands from this show had at least one release on the label. This band never released anything. There is nothing on discogs, nothing on the google, and Shazam couldn’t recognize it. Maybe the band name is wrong. If anyone has any info about these guys please let me know.

Slayer- Respectable Cafe, Miami 4/27/96 xfer from Hi8 master tape Enhanced

There is a different angle of this show with better audio courtesy of Will Salas. I showed the other video to Steve Rogers and he was blown away that someone else was filming the show. So, nice job taping will. This angle is shot from a tripod and the audio is super distorted. Maybe it would be good to edit these together one day.

Psychotica- Respectable Cafe, Miami FL 4/27/96 Xfer from Hi8 Master Enhanced

Here’s one that the band has been asking Steve to post, so here it is. Psychotica played this American Recordings showcase in Miami along with Slayer, God Lives Underwater, etc. Psychotica released their debut album on American in 1996.

Crown Heights- Respectable Cafe, Miami Fl. 4/27/96 xfer from Hi8 Master American Recordings

I recently finished up digitizing Steve Rogers’ collection of Hi8 master videotapes. Steve was based in Stockton and played in the band Surrogate Brains. He moved to Southern Cal in the 1990s, at about the same time that I moved to Whittier.
Steve worked for American Recordings in the mid-1990s, which gave him some pretty amazing opportunities to access bands that don’t typically allow video; one stage-shot video in particular blew me away. You’ll see his stuff being posted over the next few months, along with my stuff, Craig Babb’s PNW stuff and more.
Anyway, here is the first one. All of Steve’s masters are on very high quality Hi8 ME tapes. They produce better quality video than Hi8 MP as a general rule, but the only problem with ME’s is they are not very durable. I can’t play back some of my ME’s anymore- they are shot. Luckily, Steve’s all played back with much issue… except for this tape. You’ll see some lines and a couple quick dropouts.
Crown Heights released one album on American Recordings: More Pricks than Kicks in 1996, then dissolved apparently.

Fireside- Respectable Cafe, Miami Fl. 4/27/96 xfer from Hi8 Master American Recordings

Here’s another Steve Rogers video from the same show. Fireside appears to be another “one and done” American Records artist. It looks like American picked up the USA distribution of this record from a swedish label. Features Kristofer Åström on guitar and vocals, before his solo career.
