John Conley and Brian McCullough- Rehearsal/ 4 Track Demo Deasrio Erie Loch Wiccid 1989? Tape xfer

I love finding stuff like this on the end of old tapes. This was on the tape after the Little Guilt Shrine show I posted yesterday. It is labeled as “The John and Brian Thing” and it sounds like that is Brian on keys and John on guitar and vocals. Great stuff! Who woulda thunk that these 2 would make a killer collaboration. I mean, look at them- it doesn’t look like they run in the same circles. Not that there anything wrong with that.
John has been in many Sacramento bands over the last 30 years- CCR, The Boon, Ellie, Hliday Flyer, Desario, and I am sure I am missing some. Brian has built up a good fanbase with his Wiccid band.
From Anonymous’ collection, who knows from where. John didn’t remember this existing.

Anal Babies- Rehearsal, Sacramento Ca. 3/28/87 xfer from master tape R.I.P. Damon Brindle

My friend Robbie Aki broke the news yesterday that our old friend Damon Brindle passed away. Damon was in the bands Poison(the Sacramento based 1980s metal band) and Anal Babies. He was a good friend in the late 80s and then we all went our separate ways and lost touch. He actually commented on an Anal Babies post I made a couple years back, I was so happy to hear from him.
I remember Damon’s family’s big, nice house in Fair Oaks that always seemed to be a bit chaotic. His dad Mick was super cool and let us borrow his video camera to take to punk and metal shows in the early days. He even came to the show I promoted(Spankys 4/15/87) and helped videotape the show. Damon played drums with the Anal Babies at that show. Damon was always a nice, laid back guy. You can find that AB video(and their demo) on the website/channel.
Anyway, this is the only thing that I have not posted yet, that has Damon on drums. This rehearsal has Vonni Groccia on vocals, Greg (Decay) Johnson on guitar, and Damon on drums.

Vomitorium- Rehearsal, Bay Area, Ca Early 1986 Thrash Metal Parody

It’s purely a coincedence that I am sharing a demo from Vomtorium on Valenties Day. It was just the one that happened to be next up and doesn’t necessarily reflect my views on love… but they might not be too far off.

This one is from Chris Eng’s collection. He knew the band so I assume he got it right from them. It did have a decent amount of hiss that I was able to improve with Izotope Rx8.

R.K.L.- New Bomer Songs Rehearsal Tape xfer from Band Archive cassette Late 80s Rich Kids on LSD

I have been heads-down digitizing all of these new collections and I have not been giving enough time to some of these amazing collections that friends have dropped on me. Here is an example- I pulled this one out of Barry Ward’s pile of cassettes because it looked like it would be amazing.. and it really is if you are a fan of the band. This looks to be 4 track recordings of bass and guitar parts for some of Rock and Roll Nightmare. Really cool.

Herbicide- Pus Cavern, Sacramento Rehearsal 1985 with original vocalist!

One of the fun things about this hobby/website is that people reach out to me randomly about things. That is how Jim Edwards got his Guns n Roses/Crest tape to me, and a bunch of other folks have given tapes/offered support/etc. It’s nice to hear from folks, so keep the cards and letters coming! One word of caution- if you are looking to trade, my hobby time is 100% dedicated to digitizing collections that have been sent to me. I can add you to a waiting list if you are cool with that. Sorry.
Herbicide were friends (frenemies?) of ours in the late 80s. Our band (CCR) and Herbicide would practice at the same time at Pus Cavern. I thought that Rob D (the Kyle from Dr Know sounding vocalist) was their first vocalist, but this tape has Steve Graham on vocals who apparently preceded Rob. Also on this recording are my friend and former bandmate Scott Oakes (R.I.P.), Scott Campbell, and Jim Woo on bass. This tape comes from Tyla Biale- thanks for reaching out!
First few minutes of the tape is pretty messed up with nothing in one channel. It gets better after a couple min.

Sacrilege B.C.- Rehearsal 1985 East Bay Thrash Metal

You would not believe how bad this one sounded before EQ- it was muffled and not a fun listen. Now it is not quite as muffled and it kinda kicks ass.
In my last Sacrilege post, I pondered why they didn’t get as big as their peers at the time, like Forbidden, Possesed, etc. Sean from the band mentioned something that I never considered, because my brain isn’t wired that way. There was a “tight jean and high top shoes” fashion that was pretty popular in the scene in the 80s. Maybe that was it. Who knows, the songs were definitely there.

Attitude Adjustment- Rehearsal 1985 xfer from unknown gen audio cassette hardcore

What a chaotic day- here’s a short one for you. This was on the same tape as the Suicidal that I posted yesterday and it sounds different than the other 4 track rehearsal tape I posted a while back, and it is shorter. Hopefully Eric McIntire will have more context about the session.

Slayer- Practice/Rehearsal 11/5/84 xfer from master audio cassette Thrash Metal

Back to the audio on Monday- another rarity from Tour Manager Doug’s collection. Sounds like they were still working through some of those Hell Awaits songs on this tape, even though they recorded the album a couple months prior to this. Very cool, thanks Doug!

D.R.I. Interview w/Barry Ward and early Demos early 80s? Barry’s archive tape Dirty Rotten Imbeciles

Here is the last of the 14 AUDIO collections that I had not posted for a while. It looks like the last thing that I posted from Barry’s collection took place in early 2023. From here on out, you can expect an audio post from every one of the 14 collections in rotation.
This tape blew my mind. The first 25min has Barry and the band talking. It’s part interview and part them screwing around. At the 25 minute mark, the rehearsal demo starts. Never heard the first song before, and most of the rest are played at radically different tempos than their album versions. Wildly entertaining listen for fans of the band.

From Barry:

That’s crazy. I don’t think I’ve heard that tape since it was recorded. That was in my garage bedroom at my parents house in Houston. So young and green. With Kurt and Eric Brecht. Was it on reel to reel or cassette? Had a stereo reel to reel at the time. Two mics. We were goofing off and making noises when slowing down or speeding up the reel.
