Red Asphalt (?) w/Eden- Night Flight “Up All Night”, USA Network Early 1990s xfer f/band archive VHS

Alright, before anyone gets on me about this one, I edited the worst of it out. I only kept the musical performance. This one is from Scott Davey’s Archive. The Red Asphalt part is a guess- the tape was labeled “RA2 w/Eden” and it was a 23 minutes of bizarro lingerie campiness.

In the early 90s, night flight TV apparently had a late night lingerie party where they did many episodes of this.

I hope someone from the RA band can confirm that this is them

Red Asphalt- Rehearsal late career new songs 1982 transfer from band archive tape San Francisco Punk

Lots of activity around here so we are getting a late start to the posts today. This one is from Scott Davey’s cassette collection and it is a good one. Apparently Red Asphalt were rehearsing new songs before they split up. The tape has no date but I think this is from 1982.

Red Asphalt- Rehearsal Promo Videos, San francisco xfer f/band archive VHS tape 1981? Punk No Wave

Here’s the collections post today, from Scott Davey/Iguana Studios. The tape does not give much info about what this is, but it looks like they were lip synching in front of 1 camera for a promo type of video. Check out the graffiti on the wall behind the band- where the heck was this? It this the inside of the vats possibly? rehearsal studio? If anyone knows, please let me know.

Red Asphalt- Slick Willy’s, Sacramento Ca 4/1/80 f/band archive cassette San Francisco Punk No Wave

I was digging through Scott Davey’s cassettes to digitize and had to do a double-take when I saw this. The tape’s J-card just said “R/A Slick W.” so I pulled it and sure enough, it was from Sacramento. THE FIRST recording found from the legendary Slick Willy’s nightclub. They were around for about 5 years, hosting shows by the Ramones, Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, Ozzie and many more. The only documentation we had previous to this were Greg Savalin’s photos.

On to the show. The band seems to get heckled to start, but by the end the crowd was cheering for an encore. The tape was very heavy on drums and vocals, so I did my best to rebalance some instruments back in.

The photo is where I think SW’s used to be, cobbling together addresses from old flyers and checking google street view.

Today’s audio post is from Scott Davey’s collection. I just learned that Scott’s old facebook account was deleted. That’s too bad, it was nice to tag him so his friends could see his work living on…

Even though the song that I checked did not ID on shazam, this demo seems to be a combo of released tracks and a couple that are not.

Red Asphalt- Rehearsal Late 1970s? Transfer from band archive cassette San Francisco Punk No Wave

Yesterday I have proclaimed that I have been flailing enough on the video transfer setup. That was apparently not true. I transferred tapes all day yesterday and when I went to work them up in Adobe, it told me I had the wrong codec. After some trial and error this morning, it is finally dialed. That means that I get to re-do all that stuff from yesterday, which means that today’s video post is going to be late in the day. Sigh.

This one is from Scott Davey’s collection and is on the flipside of that RA rehearsal tape a few weeks back. This one sounds earlier than the other one.
