Ah, the good old days of CDR trading. Back in the early 2000’s, “tape” trading really opened up for a lot of people. Once PC’s were able to burn audio CD’s, thousands of people jumped in to the hobby.. which was great! The downside was that a lot of the strict lineage that cassette/DAT traders used kinds went by the wayside. I do know that this was a minidisc master bounced to CDR.
Man, this thing is super dynamic. Mostly quiet with some real loud parts. Even though I have a ton of tools to process audio and video, I don’t have a way to compress audio. I just tried downloading audacity and the install bonked out (my pc is ancient). Oh well, here is the uncompressed version. Turn it up!

Todd Snider and the Nervous Wrecks- Down on the Farm Festival, Norway 6/3/96 xfer f/DAT FM Sbd Clone

Ugh. Todd Snider passed away from Pneumonia today. R.I.P. Todd. I’ll go on my “what’s wrong with the USA” rant below, but I wanted to share this first- it’s a really nice show from Todd when he played a barn in Norway in 1996. I think one of my friends in Denmark taped it (Thomas?) on DAT and then cloned it for me. You will also get a bonus snippet of another set that followed this one, later today.

The events leading up to his passing seem to be another example of the US’ “shoot/arrest first, ask questions later” approach to policing and care. It appears that he was seeking medical help because he couldn’t breathe, had an argument with the hospital, and was arrested. I hope everyone involved is held accountable. Something similar happened about 100 yards away from where I live earlier this year- a man was having a mental crisis and wanted to speak to his (estranged) daughter, so the cops came in and sht and killed him. We need a more compassionate and empathetic police presence that focuses on de-escalation before anything else. As you can see, it pisses me off.

Meat Puppets- Cruise Cafe, Oslo Norway 2/6/92 xfer from 3rd gen soundboard cassette complete show

I usually would not mess around with a 3rd gen soundboard tape of a taper-friendly band, but this one is an exception because 1) The performance absolutely rips 2) it still sounds great with minimal hiss 3) it is not available anywhere else and 4) I think my friend KN got it from legendary Meat Puppets soundman/Black Flag roadie, Davo. He would tape all of the shows and give some of us (KN, Jon Vogel, etc) copies of the best ones.

So that’s why I picked this for On This Day in History. Look at that setlist. HIGHLY Recommended as a wonderful escape to current events.
