Arcwelder- First Avenue, Fargo ND 4/19/97 xfer from 1st gen VHS tape Touch and Go Indie Rock Punk

I pulled another video filmed by Steve Hanson(R.I.P.) for today’s On This Day in History. Arcwelder were a band from Minneapolis who were very active in the 90s- 6 albums and 4 singles released from 1990-1999. The released 4 albums on touch and go and then broke up. My favorite by them is Xerxes.
While looking up their info on discogs, I discovered that the band reformed and put out an album last year! Nice surprise.

Archers of Loaf-First Avenue, Fargo ND 8/21/96 Xfer f/1st gen soundboard tape complete Eric Bachmann

I just finished digitizing and rebalancing today’s on this date in history.
I had the venue one marked as First Avenue, Minneapolis which made no sense. There were very few boards coming out of that venue and a 1st gen? How? Who did I get it from?
Thanks to Dan Johnson and newspapers dot com, it was actually the venue of the same name in Fargo. Now it made sense- it’s a Steve Hanson (RIP) tape!
There was no bass in the mix so I bumped it up in Izotope. Also pushed the guitar a little as well.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the next big thing.

Shellac- 1st Avenue, Fargo ND 7/7/96 xfer from 1st gen audio cassette Steve Albini Late Set

I pulled this for today’s On This Date in History for 2 reasons- for one, I got it from the taper Steve Hanson (who I think passed away) and I don’t think a lot of his tapes made it out in circulation.. and two, as a memorial to the Steve in the band.
I rated this tape really badly on my list- VG- usually means “unlistenable garbage”, but it only needed a good EQ to get the harsh high end out of there. The beginning of the tape is a little odd- low levels and not as crisp. It gets better later on.

Holy crap, this thing kicks ass. I uploaded this about a month ago and never got around to posting. What a performance.
I think I rebalanced this one in Izotope rx7. I can’t remember.

Nar- Minot, ND. November 1994 xfer from band 8mm master Enhanced Sacramento Punk

Here’s the last installment from Ed Carroll’s bag of NAR tour tapes. Thanks to Ed and Scott for trusting me with them. I had never heard of a band playing this city so I had to look it up. It’s the 4th largest city in ND and that’s about it. Scott told me that punk kids who corresponded with them would ask them to play their town, and they would! Amazing.
