Minutemen: I-Beam, San Francisco ca 9/23/85 DBX Cassette Soundboard-DAT-CDR Complete Set

Against my better judgment, I’m going to try to post another bay area Minutemen board tape for today’s On This Date in history. I checked thoroughly this time- nothing on live music archive, nothing on youtube.

The tape was damaged at the beginning of this, but it pulls out of it pretty quickly. Forward to 5min if you can’t handle the quality at the start.
Probably should have rebalanced this- needs more guitar

Minutemen- Berkeley Square, Berkeley Ca 9/21/85 Cassette Master Soundboard-DAT Partial D Boon Watt

Sooo. It’s a bit late. This has been the busiest day in memory. At least it’s still the 21st in Hawaii!
I have 2 versions of this one. This incomplete one and a complete version. The DAT with the complete version is not lost, it’s just not where it is supposed to be at this time. This is why I tell my “tell me what to do” folks to list alternates.
Anyway, the mix was pretty light on bass. In fact, it was light on everything but drums. I did my best to fix it up in Izotope.
Odd that this one is not out on youtube yet.

Minutemen- Studio Z, KPFK Live in Studio, Los Angeles Ca 7/10/85 xfer f/unknown gen cassette D Boon

This one is perplexing. I pulled a handful of cassettes out of Tony Philputt/Phil Go’s collection to digitize and saw that the Minutemen set on the tape after this one was not online so I was planning to post it today. I figured that this one was definitely out there… but no, after some research, it doesn’t seem so.

I think this is the same source as the Spin “Radio Undergroud” live concert, but Spin only takes a portion of the set (in this case about 21min- one side of an LP), while KPFK broadcasts the entire set. They did the same with the Thin White Rope one I posted a while back. I searched online in a bunch of different ways because I couldn’t believe that it’s that rare, but I couldn’t find it. Let me know if you see it anywhere.

Minutemen- Bell Gaskeel, Geneva, Switzerland 2/23/83 xfer f/unknown gen soundboard tape SST Records

This is the Minutemen show that prompted me to pull this tape out and digitize it. Then we discovered that the full show that was edited for the spin concert was also uncirculated/not online. Cool. 2 for 1.

I was going to attempt a rebalance but the guitar moves around in the mix too much to fix, so you get it as is.
