After seeing fIREHOSE play a somewhat sloppy first show back at Harlows , Anonymous & I drove to Fresno to see their last show, post-coachella. Side note Fresno is WAY TOO FAR to drive to a concert and back in one night. They were way tighter at this show, and the songs were played at about album speed. Good stuff!
Note- there is a multicamera video of this show on youtube as well. It looks pretty decent. This is my single camera recording of the show. Filmed with a Canon HFM30.
Since Brian McKenna posted the story about the short-handed Sacramento stop of this tour, I thought that I would digitize my DAT master recording of the show at The Palace a few days later… on the 25th anniversary of the show. Man, I hated the Palace. Security was a huge pain in the ass, and the theater’s acoustics was one of the worst I have dealt with. I am about 15 feet from the left stack and it is still distant, echoey and boomy. My one good palace story was that I once forgot a battery pack for a pavement show (taping through the soundboard) so I faked illness/medical emergency to get out to my car for the pack- they were strict on ins and outs. I thanked the security guy on the way back in and showed him the pack as I strolled back in. heh heh. I know that Vedder and Grohl performed the entire tour, but I don’t know if Carla did the entire thing. Hearing her sing some of these songs is a real treat. And we also get KIRA on her only appearance of the tour!
The rest of the bands from that night are forthcoming.
Recorded by: Shayne Stacy Equipment used: Sony TCD-D7 and Coresound Binaural mics with battery box bass rolloff Transfer equipment: Sony PCM-500 and M-Audio Audiophile 2496 card EQ’d in Sony Soundforge to bring the bass down a bit (yes, it was actually bassier than this)
This is an awesome interview- Mike and Thurston get onstage to interview each other and heckle the audience. They appear to be feeling no pain. That tour must have been fun.
