Very busy day so I am late with the posts. Today’s On This Date is one you don’t want to miss. I wonder if this was the precursor to the run of Hanukkah shows that they do now. Covers from KISS, Velvet Underground, Richard Hell and more! The actual set of their songs is very good too- not too snoozy.

I had a few options for today’s On This Day in History, but this one looks good enough. It’s from Jim Utz’ collection. It might be worth re-transferring this one and doing the lossless xfer/denoise/upscale. Jim, do you remember who you got this from? It doesn’t seem to be online anywhere. Actually, I wonder who did all of those late 80s Maxwell’s videos. I have never seen even a 1st gen surface.

Here’s another one from the same DAT as Luna. Jim Romeo put this on the DAT without me requesting it, but I ended up being a fan of the band later on. Thanks, Jim!

It wasn’t easy getting a post ready for today. The original audio I had prepared would not read from the disc, so I will need to recapture that one. This one was next and Stanley’s drumming dominated the recording, so I rebalanced it… and totally buried the vocals. This is the second rebalance attempt (an hour processing each) and the vocals are still buried but it sounds as good as it is going to get. I remember getting these in trade from taper Jim Romeo right when they happened and being so excited to hear the new songs.

This was the second short one that I had planned to post yesterday, but it got late and a lot of Raygun fansare 2 hours ahead of me, so I waited. That means 3 posts today! 3 tomorrow as well. Maybe even 3 on Sunday! Woooo!
This was on that same Greg Fasolino tape as Happy Flowers at CBGB. I had a worse copy of this in my collection for 30+ years, but I am pretty sure that this is either a 1st gen or 2nd gen VHS. As for the incompleteness of the set, I recall NR’s manager at the time being not OK with video. She shut me down ahead of the Gilman 1988 show- that’s why there is no video of that one.
Anyway, enjoy the 3min 44 seconds here. From Tony Philputt’s collection
