Lydia Loveless- Goldfield Trading Post, Sacramento Ca 10/30/21 4K UHD Lumix GH5S Americana

Lydia came through town last weekend in what was supposedly a “co-headlining” tour with Lily Hiatt… but it was pretty clear that Lydia had an opening length set and she played first. I forgot my monopod so I shot this by hand and skipped Lily’s set because I am old, it was too loud and my shoulder hurt after holding this damned thing in the air for 45min. Get off my lawn.
The set was good, but definitely lacking the energy they had when I saw them open for DBT in 2016. Maybe it was due to having no drummer… or maybe it was due to not having the Cliff Burton of americana, Ben Lamb, in the band now. Dunno.
Thanks to Anonymous for the free ticket and the ride to the show. I could fight the halloween pub crawl bros to enjoy an extra beer.
Thanks to Brian for taking risks that sometimes don’t pay off to keep bringing great music to town.

Lydia Loveless- Ace of Spades, Sacramento 10/5/16 Multicam with Schoeps Audio

Man, did this one turn out nice. The only small issue is that I accidentally cropped Todd May out of the full stage angle, but I got enough of him in the roving shot to make up for it. Filmed with 2 HFG30, 1 HFG10 and a gopro. Thanks to Jason Ellis for the audio, Brian McKenna for securing permission to film, Ben Lamb for giving permission, and Dillon Fries for the edit. It turned out great!

Starting a new series of video posts called “I forgot to post them a long time ago and was shocked when I searched the sac music archive and they were not there”. Nice and concise.
Anyway, I probably held this one back because it was dark and vocals are a bit buried… but after taking another look, this isn’t as dark as I remember and vocals are fine on the slower songs.
Speaking of slower songs, this show happened after they released Indestructible Machine, but before Somewhere Else. I think they were touring the Boy Crazy EP. They only played 1 song from IM (at my request- my nickname is now “SACRAMENTO”), some of the Boy Crazy EP, and then a LOT of new songs that would appear on Somewhere Else.
