Lately, I haven’t had a plan for an On This Date in History post. I wake up and get to the studio, and look through the list to see what I want to listen to during the morning. I came across this and it was a no-brainer. It was (and is) a must listen.
If you are unaware of the band, it’s your lucky day! You get to discover a new band today. One of the best jangle pop bands ever. They seemed to be overshadowed a bit by that other Georgia jangle pop band, R.E.M., in my humble opinion. They were every bit as great as their Athens counterparts. My favorite album of theirs is Walking in the Shadows of the Big Man.
Lead vocalist Murray Attaway recently released a new album- his first new album in over 30 years. He still has some (limited to 100) vinyl available at his Bandcamp store, and he autographed the one he sent me. That’s pretty nice. The album is really good!
I love these late 80’s pro walkman recordings. I don’t have equipment detail, but it sounds like a sony D6 and either an ECM909 or Aiwa CM30. Really nice and crisp with enough clean low end to EQ it well.
