I have been working Eggplant’s cassettes nonstop for 10 days. It feels like a full time job. I need to ask him for salary and benefits, haha. Anyway, this is unfortunately incomplete, but it is WAY better quality than the other copies floating around out there. I rebalanced it in Izotope Rx8 and forgot to save a screenshot of my settings. Derp.

Jeff Ott and I (Arica Pelino) made this movie in 1992 for our friend Kerry who lived in Oakland before moving back home to Milwaukee. Sixty minutes of footage has been removed to protect the innocent.
Punks: Jeff Ott, Lucky Dog, Jean Repetto, Pat Hynes, Eggplant, Aaron Elliot, Mike Dirnt, Me, Carrie, Kelsea, Monica, Jen, Julia, and Erika.
Alright, since we are already giving away cool Gilman stuff (see video from earlier today), let’s share this one for today’s On This Date in History. We are not even CLOSE to being done with Arica’s collection. In fact, I recently digitized a tape with no markings on it- just a generic no label tape- and it had Green Day and Black Fork on it! What is it- who knows? We need to figure it out… Anyway, here is a tape that was labeled- Green Day played Gilman on Friday the 18th and Sunday the 20th of October in 1991. This was at the time that the Oakland Hills fire started to burn. I talked to Arica today and she and Billie Joe had to detour just to make it to the show!

Here is the first of many rare and previously uncirculated Green Day tapes from Arica Pelino’s archive. Huge thanks to Arica for bringing them over and handing them off to me last month. I am going to let Arica introduce this one: “this show has only been released on audio format prior to this. This video is being released in its entirety for the first time and includes RARE after-show footage with:
Lint/Tim Armstrong Marshall Stax (on stage) Damon O’Manic Joel Wing Kaz Hope Anna Armstrong
Filmed by: Arica Pelino

Here is one from Arica Pelino’s collection that we were not planning to post at all, but a bunch of people saw the photo of the VHS tape with this show on there so here you go. There was a problem with the camera and the video is so overexposed on the master tape that you can’t see them at all. I did a couple of things to try to get it to the point where you could see the band. First, I adjusted the video filters in virtualdub so it would capture it with less exposure and some contrast upon digitizing the VHS. Then I popped it into adobe premiere and worked up the rest. I should show a screenshot of the original so you could see how much of an improvement this is, haha. Anyway, Maicon (green day brazil) sent over time stamps and noted that this is the first recorded performance of 2,000 Light Years Away. Thanks Maicon! And, as always thanks Arica!

Here’s one from Arica Pelino’s collection. She filmed this one way back- we think it is the 10/3/91 show. A couple weeks back, my friend Arica Pelino flew into Sacramento with a suitcase full of tapes. There is SO MUCH amazing East Bay Punk stuff in there- it has been a joy digitizing the tapes for her… and we are just getting started! Thanks for bringing them, Arica! This one is a short teaser for you- before their show on 9/28/91 at Phoenix Theater, Arica filmed Green Day getting prepared (makeup and all) before the show. The video was a little dark and grainy (90s video technology and all), but I tried to brighten it up a bit and denoise as much as I could without giving everyone that “iphone beauty” look. I mean, look how beautiful they are without it! If you all want to be in the loop about the release of this archival East Bay audio/video from her collection, you all should subscribe to YT, sign up for email on the sacramentomusicarchive website, or join the facebook group for the archive. Enjoy!

Here is a special collections post for you today. Arica had her camera at this college dorm show with Fifteen and Green Day. Billie Joe gets popped in the mouth with a mic stand- HARD – and chaos ensues.
I did my best to help with visibility of this one- the back light made this even more shadowy before the enhancements. Hope you enjoy it and thanks to Arica for OK’ing the release.

Well apparently today is the 33rd anniversary of Kerplunk’s release. Our pals at Green Day Brasil (instagram) asked for something close to the release date to commemorate this occasion, so I found this tape in Arica’s suitcase. From the look of the actual tape, it didn’t look like one that Arica filmed… but it still looks very good. I’m estimating a 1st gen VHS- I bet that Arica will confirm or correct me when she checks in from her world travels.
This means that Tour Doug Tuesday returns next week- sorry metalheads
I checked on youtube and elsewhere and this does not seem to be out there. According to GD Brasil, this is the earliest documented recording of Dominated Love Slave.

As promised, here is the last of the “4 day video weekend”. This one comes from Rodney Parker’s master tape and is one of the most improved videos that I was able to do- thanks Rodney! Check out his channel @BayAreaPunkShows for more great stuff! Cybelle’s lighting was close to non-existent so the early ’90s video camera didn’t pick up much… but thanks to a clean transfer and lighting adjustments/denoise in Adobe Premiere, it looks alright. Sounds good as well. Now if people would just get out of the way, it would be perfect!
