Bay Bombers- Geek Fest 13, 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca 1/18/98 xfer from 1st gen soundboard cassette

LATE post today. This new work role is no fun- I had no time for anything up until now. Still, the daily streak remains unbroken. It IS before midnight PST.
Another Eggplant tape. I have never heard of these guys, but one of the members mentioned playing the first show at 924 Gilman, and I know that Soup and Christ on Parade played the first show along with others. Does anyone know who was in this band, and which band “Gilman opening night” band they were in? If we were able to figure out who Chronic Decay were (thanks random youtube commenter), we can figure this one!

Captured! by Robots- Geekfest 13, 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca 1/18/98 xfer from 1st gen soundboard tape

Sorry for the late post, 14 hour workday.
A short prelude to this one. I am always an advocate of going to the show- if you are on the fence, GO. It’s almost always better than staying at home. I wish I could go to more shows- I miss it. Well, I went to see this band a couple years ago, and I wished I stayed home. Worst show I had seen in a long time. Thank goodness that the freak accident (Ralph from victims family’s band) opened, or the night would have been a total loss.
With that said, the quality of this one makes it worth a listen if you are curious about a band of robots playing art/punk rock. The show I saw was pure noise/distortion. Actually, this is WAY better. I guess being able to hear the words/lyrics matters.
from Robert Eggplant’s collection. Sorry to bag on the band, my friend.

Secretions- Geek Fest 13, 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca 1/18/98 xfer from 1st gen soundboard cassette

I hope everyone is having a nice Wednesday- I am multitasking through a lunch meeting and I am packed with meetings all day, so you get a quick one today.
Sacramento 90’s punk heart throbs The Secretions played Geek Fest back in 1998- the mix is decent and I don’t think I even rebalanced it in Izotope. Enjoy!

The Enemies- Geekfest 13, 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca 1/18/98 xfer from 1st gen soundboard tape

One more Robert Eggplant post for the week. I recently posted an Enemies video from Erica Pelino’s collection, so I’ll steal from that description for this post.
They had some East Bay Punk legends in the band- Dave Ed (Christ on Parade, Neurosis), Jason Willer (many bands, but probably best known for being in Charger and Jello Biafra and the GSOM), and Mike Pelino (part of Green Day’s expanded band in the 2000’s.
It’s funny to me that they would play geek fest as it seemed more geared toward the folk punk crowd. Glad they did, this a pretty good mix.

Robert Eggplant- Geek Fest, 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca 1/18/98 xfer from 1st gen soundboard cassette

Here’s a short one today from the (beloved) source of many of these recent 924 Gilman audio posts. Eggplant would perform at Gilman on occasion, and he played a short set at Geek Fest “Year of the Geek” edition in 1998.
He mentions using Mike’s amp, which was probably Mike Pelino from The Enemies, who also played the show.
