Flaming Lips- BBC, Maida Vale Studios, London England 5/3/99 xfer from CDR close of DAT master FM

Here’s a cool one for On This Date in History- the Flaming Lips do a live BBC studio session a couple weeks before the release of The Soft Bulletin. Great stuff and nice quality.
When I looked online to check if this has been posted before, the only source I found was an audience video clip… which is kinda bizarre for an in studio session. I clipped a frame from that video for the image.

Flaming Lips- Burro Room, Chico Ca. 10/21/89 Audio Only Sony WMD6C Pro Walkman Live Master Xfer

Back in the 80s, it was really hard to get information about out-of-town shows. You could get some info from the SF Chronicle’s pink sheets, but a lot of it was word of mouth or getting a flyer(or The List) from a show. Chico was a total black hole (no offense intended)- the only way we found out about these shows was usually when we would see a band in Sac and they told us that they were playing Chico the next night.
So after laying waste to the UC Davis Coffeehouse, Anonymous followed them to Chico the record the Burro Room show. This one is as good quality as UCD.

Flaming Lips- UC Davis Coffeehouse, Davis Ca. 10/20/89 Audio Only xfer from Sony Pro Walkman Master

On top of the 4,000 cassettes of my own that reside at the archive, I also have other collections– I have over 500 punk cassettes from Jason Ross, about 100 from Dal Basi, A lot from Brian McKenna, and a couple hundred from my friend Anonymous. He taped with a Sony WMD6C Pro Walkman back in the late 80s and was able to get some nice results from the deck along with a Sony ECM909 mic.
He told me that this was one of the loudest shows he had ever attended, and it still sounds pretty damned good. This is a transfer from his master tape.
