Surrogate Brains- Danceteria, Sacramento Ca 7/3/88 transfer f/1st gen VHS tape Lookout Stockton Punk

Since the Patreon voter’s choice was only 4 minutes long, let’s do the other Surrogate Brains show that was on the tape. I was at this one with my video camera, but I video’d Corrupted Morals and Victims Family and that’s all I had battery and tape to do. The struggle was real, kids. Plus, I had just video’d them the week before…
Anyway. Probably the best early SB video I have seen.

Sorry, I did not tape Necromancy, and I don’t think the filmer here did either. RIP Jeff Hagerman

7 Seconds- Danceteria, Sacramento Ca. 6/23/88 xfer from master tape!

So I had my camera for about a month and a half when 7 seconds played a hometown show. They have been one of my favorite bands for over 30 years, so it was a thrill when they have the OK to video. This is a great show, and surprisingly well-lit for the ancient camera. Filmed with an Aiwa CV-80 and stock mic (sorry for the audio quality). Look for yourselves in the front row, all you middle aged punks! This is one of the few Clear & Distinct shows I filmed. Thanks Stuart Katz!

Red Hot Chili Peppers- Danceteria, Sacramento Ca 4/6/88 xfer f/master audio cassette Anonymous Ver

Here’s the last post of the day, and the last of our rare RHCP recordings. I had posted a different version of this show, from Anonymous 2’s collection (totally different guy). This is Anonymous’ version, done with his Aiwa handheld recorder with stock mic. I think it sounds pretty damned good for a non-pro 1988 recording. Can you believe that two people were recording this? Kinda blows me away. Both are still active in the scene today, which is another mind-blowing fact.

If you haven’t seen the new Hillel Slovak documentary, it’s worth a watch. I am a casual fan of the early stuff and it was excellent.
