Black Sabbath- Cow Palace, San Francisco Ca. 1/25/84 xfer from master Audio Cassette w/Ian Gillan

Here is a really great recording from Doug. He sent me this ticket picture, and followed it up with a story about how he had an unused ticket signed by Tony and Ian. He was in line for the show and he saw a limo go around the arena– a bunch of people followed the car but Doug went the other way around the arena. Long story short, doors were open, security was nowhere to be found, so Doug walked right in and found a room with food… and Ian Gillan/Tony Iommi. He was offered a sandwich by someone, but he declined and got these autographs and left. He realized after that it was Geezer Butler offering him the sandwich. D’oh!
So, Doug went up to the box office and bought another ticket for the show (remember those times? ahhh, the good old days) and has this one as a keepsake. What a story!
As for the show, it sounds pretty damned good for that place. I have never heard a Sabbath live set with Gillan, and it’s pretty good. He absolutely kills on Ozzy’s songs, and Dio’s are…interesting. They had radically different vocal styles, so they are pretty different interpretations.
Doug mentioned that the band got there very late, and it sounds like they may not have had an adequate soundcheck. It takes a bit to get the mix right in the room.

AC/DC- Cow Palace, San Francisco Ca 10/19/83 xfer from master audio cassette Angus Young Full Show

One more Tour Manager Doug post for the week- this one sounds pretty nice for a loud arena show. That little walkman could take some volume without distorting.
I posted a copy of the ticket stub from the show back when I posted the Fastway (opener) set a while back, but I found an actual photo from this show online so I figured I would use this one this time.
It looks like this one found its way online, but this one should be superior quality, as it comes right off Doug’s tape.

Fastway- Cow Palace, San Francisco Ca 10/19/83 xfer f/master audio cassette Flogging Molly Motorhead

Back to Doug’s treasure chest of shows. Here is a Fastway opening set for AC/DC back in 1983. I got to see the band around this time and they were damned good live. It was nice seeing Fast Eddie Clarke playing- I was a little too young to see him with Motorhead. It it still mind-blowing to me to hear Dave King (Flogging Molly’s vocalist and main guy) performing here. What a career transition! It turned out alright for him.
This set sounds pretty good for being the cavernous Cow Palace. Doug always found the sweet spot of the venue.
