Son Volt, Rusted Root, Blues Traveler MMW and More- HORDE Fest, PBS On Tour TV Show 7/97 VHS Master

I have been working for about the past month to get a new/improved VHS capture setup working, which would also decrease the number of computers from 5 to 4 out here. It has been quite an ordeal, but it looks like I got it dialed in as of today. I captured this one earlier in the week (just to see if the setup was working ok) so if there are any A/V synch issues, please let me know. I can’t watch this much jam band at once.
I taped this one for the 2 Son Volt songs from HORDE in Buffalo, but this includes a bunch of HORDE acts, recorded at various stops from the 1996 tour. Includes Me’Shell NdegéOcello and Son Volt from Buffalo NY 8/20/96; Medeski, Martin and Wood/Leftover Salmon from Phoenix 7/24/96; and Blues Traveler/Rusted Root from Chula Vista 7/26/96. Good people watching on this one- you can almost smell the patchouli through the screen.

10000 Maniacs- Marquee at the Tralf, Buffalo NY 3/8/96 Live Soundboard xfer from 1st gen tape

Here’s a real treat today. Someone had asked me to transfer a tape that had part of this show. I figured that it would be nice to transfer this entire show as well. This is another one of Joel Gershon’s seemingly lost archives. Recorded through soundboard with band permission.
I love this era of the Maniacs- it is the full “classic” lineup of Buck/Augustiniak/Drew/Gustavson, PLUS John Lombardo from the early days (my favorite era), and Mary Ramsey on vocals. You get old 10,000 maniacs songs along with some John & Mary sings I think. Great stuff.
The mix was pretty weak so I fixed it up in Izotope RX7

Here is one from an old taping friend who taped some really amazing stuff in Buffalo. He also had connections with 10,000 Maniacs and he shared some cool stuff by them as well. In fact, this was on a tape with a soundboard tape of 10,000 maniacs that he mastered. That one is coming soon.
He had a ton of jam bands that I didn’t care about, but he would tape all of the alternative bands coming through and they always sounded stellar. This is an example. He has been gone about 25 years now. R.I.P.

Man, I have a LOT of shows that happened on April 25. I picked this one for On This Date in History because a contributor to the archive loves the band. Thanks for the setlist documentation and research, Obaku Cubs/Isabella Askaan. I don’t know your real name, but I appreciate the help!

I think this one was taped by a friend of Anonymous and me. Katie Dee from Buffalo was one of our first tape traders and she is the person who turned me on to a bunch of the early pop punk/alternative bands. I remember her sending me early goo goo dolls stuff during their late 80s Metal Blade Records era.

I am almost certain that Katie bought a Sony D3 walkman to tape shows, and this one definitely sounds like a D3 tape. Nice and crisp with shallow bass.

I found a nice review of the show on newspapers dot con- thanks Dan!
