Son Volt- Belly Up Tavern, Solana Beach Ca 7/20/97 xfer f/DAT Schoeps Master Full Show Uncle Tupelo

And finally, here is today’s On This Date in History. I borrowed my old friend Kurt Vogel’s Schoeps microphones and followed Son Volt through Arizona and Southern California in 1997. This one is probably the best sounding of all of them. Huge thanks to Kurt for letting me use them.

This one did have some issues- one channel was cutting out pretty badly so I went through and corrected that when needed. Most of this is a stereo recording, some is a 2 channel mono deal.

The recording was really clear, but it was lacking in guitar and vocals, so I worked it up in Izotope to a level where I am happy with it now.

Channel correction in Sony Sound Forge 10

Pleasure Barons- Belly Up Tavern, Solana Beach Ca 3/29/93 f/ 2nd gen VHS RIP Mojo Nixon Dick Montana

I posted my own video last week after getting the new of Mojo’s passing. I found one other one in the VHS tape collection that people might like.
The Pleasure Barons were a “Supergroup” with Country Dick Montana and Joey Harris from the Beat Farmers, Mojo Nixon, Dave Alvin, John Doe, Tim “Steelbone” Cook, Katy Moffat, and Rosie Flores. What a band! Great show! Dave Alvin puts in a killer performance.
This came from a guy named Mark, who I met through the Bernat brothers, who were some of the original San Diego alt/punk tapers. Not the greatest quality- it would be nice to get a transfer off the master tape. Does anyone know who filmed this one?
