Pavement- Steve Lamacq Session, BBC UK 5/24/99 xfer from DAT to CDR Clone Stephen Malkmus Indie Rock

It’s odd- some of these things that I figured would be online and accessible just do not exist. It happens twice with these “On this date in history” posts over the long weekend. Here is the first.

First of all, this sounds like a live set- not an in studio session. I tried shazam’ing it and noting comes up, so it probably wasn’t officially released anywhere. All you pavement completists, tell me what this is, if it is indeed labeled incorrectly.

Speaking of Pavement, it looks like I might be getting some of my soundboard recordings on an official release. That’s pretty cool. I hope it materializes.

Oh, one last thing. I know that this photo is not time appropriate, but it is the only photo of the band with Steve Lamacq out there. The photo is from 2022, session from 1999.

Flaming Lips- BBC, Maida Vale Studios, London England 5/3/99 xfer from CDR close of DAT master FM

Here’s a cool one for On This Date in History- the Flaming Lips do a live BBC studio session a couple weeks before the release of The Soft Bulletin. Great stuff and nice quality.
When I looked online to check if this has been posted before, the only source I found was an audience video clip… which is kinda bizarre for an in studio session. I clipped a frame from that video for the image.

The Who- Whole Scene Going TV Show, BBC TV England 1/5/66 xfer f/Umatic Master Tape

I am battling one of the worst migraines of my life today so this will be short.

This one is on youtube in pretty good quality already, but the good folks over at JEMS sent me the Umatic TV master tape of this one a while back, and none of them are this good or have an annoying time code on the top. lol.
