Cracker- Petaluma Music Festival 7/26/25 4K UHD Master w/Schoeps audio Partial set

First off, if you all can do me a favor and NOT post this over on the Cracker crumbs facebook group, I would appreciate it. I got plonked by David on Sunday and was asked to not post there, so let’s play it safe and keep my stuff off of there completely. Yikes. Between that and Morst’s issues at The Fillmore, it seems that the ol’ “taper freindly” label is starting to peel off. haha.

So this is the first of 2 that I am posting from last week’s voter’s choice. It took me over 3 HOURS to get to this fest from home. It’s about 100 miles. I thought I left in time to make it to see Cracker, but there was SO much traffic. So that’s why you see this one cut in and get filmed through the soundboard tent. I had to turn the camera off a couple times to get settings dialed in. It’s amazing it turned out as good as it did, given the circumstances. The CVB set is way better.

Halestorm- Toyota Amp, Wheatland Ca 7/24/25 4K UHD Master w/Schoeps Audio Complete Hard Rock Metal

Since Halestorm is coming back to the area- I think they play Thunder Valley tomorrow- I worked this one up.
I wasn’t planning on going to this show but I checked for tickets on day of show and someone was selling a luxury box seat for CHEAP so I figured what the heck. I am glad I did- this is probably my best ZS200/Schoeps video. It looks and sounds great!
It takes me a couple of minutes to settle in to position, but it is pretty steady from then on. Mix improves a bit into the set.

Half Pint- Golden Bear, Sacramento Ca 7/20/25 4K UHD Complete Set w/Schoeps audio Lightweight

Tonight is the night! We have Bastards of Young, The Blessing and Half Pint at Old Ironsides. I am going to try to make it, but my old body woke me up at 5am and my son has soccer until sundown. We’ll see.

Jim McLain posted the Blessing’s first show over on his channel, but no Half Pint has gone up yet. Here you go. Half Pint was Donny from Lightweight and a lady whose name I did not catch- they wrote these songs as a duo years ago, even before Lightweight was active. They then resurrected the project with a full band. Lys, if I got any of that wrong, please correct me.

Anyway, I think they are on first so hurry and check this out and head to Old I tonight.

Rhythm Collision- 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca 7/1/25 4K Multicam w/Multitrack Audio Hardcore Dr. Strange

Collections post from me today. Man, am I glad I got to see these guys. They disbanded in 1995 and got back together in 2023 and they ripped. Big thanks to Alex Botkin for helping arrange the multitrack recording- this one turned out nice.

Pegboy- 924 Gilman Berkeley Ca 7/1/25 4K UHD Multicam w/ Multitrack Audio Naked Raygun Complete Show

This was a GREAT show at Gilman from earlier this year. Pegboy and Rhythm Collision. Glad I made it.
It was made even better when everything came together for this video- band gave permission, Alex Botkin helped work behind the scenes to get a multitrack recording for me, and the lighting was great.
The only downside is that Larry spends a lot of time in the crowd- I should have put a camera pointing in that area. Would have been perfect.
Super cool of the band to honor Pierre Kezdy by playing Treason, and dedicating it to him.

Cro-Mags: Alex’ Bar, Long Beach Ca 6/23/25 4K UHD Master Video w/Schoeps Audio NYHC Harley Flanagan

Bonus post tonight- if you were following along, you’l remember that I screwed up the voting timeline and I had 2 patreon $10 tier votes happening at once. This one ended on Friday night and it processed yesterday, so up it goes today!

I did have permission to video this one, but they asked me to keep cameras off the stage so you only get 1 camera. It turned out pretty good! I usually hate watching my own stuff, but this one is enjoyable! Check out Harley’s face from 7min to 7:30- classic!

this band sounds great, but I really wish that JJ’s vocals were there.

Underdog- Alex’s Bar, Long Beach Ca 6/23/25 4K UHD Multicam with Matrix audio

TL:DR version- Forward to 2min 47 seconds for better audio, and to 3min 15 seconds for the DSLR angle to kick in.
Here’s one from my collection today. I am about 4 months behind on getting multicam edits done, so I decided to skip to one of the most recent.
I went to Southern Cal for Big Frank’s memorial (and to get some gear repaired) a couple weeks ago and saw this show(underdog/ cro-mags) on the calendar the next night, so I figured I would hit this one too. I had to drop my gear off in Burbank on Monday and pick it up on my way back home on Tuesday, so going to this was a no-brainer.
What I didn’t expect was the brutal mid-day L.A. traffic on Monday. After spending a couple hours in traffic up to Burbank, I took side streets from Hollywood back to my hotel in Cerritos, hitting a few shops on the way. I did not get back until about 8pm. I was texting with my old friend Grant, who works at Alex’s on occasion and for some reason, I had it in my head that shows at Alex’s ran late so I thought I was good rolling in a bit late but Grant told me they run 100% on time. I had to get my ass to the venue immediately if I was to catch Underdog.
Backpacks are not allowed at Alex’s so I had to improvise a way to get multiple cameras into the venue. I rammed the gopros in the tripod bag and held my DSLR by hand walking in. Security gave me a long look but could tell I was totally stressed about getting there on time so he let me in. I make a beeline to the Underdog merch tent and get permission and they tell me they are walking on stage NOW.
So I fly into the venue, toss a USB drive to the soundman with no notice (sorry), put 1 gopro up on stage and the band starts. It takes me a minute to get the Schoeps and the DSLR going, so stick with it. It gets really good after about 5min.
GREAT set. I have not heard these songs in about 40 years and remembered just about every one of them.

Carry Nation- Big Frank Memorial, Garden Amp, Garden Grove Ca 6/22/25 4K Multicam w/Schoeps Audio

My kids are off on spring break next week and I have realized there is no way that I can get enough videotapes digitized to work far enough ahead to cycle through the ol’ “1 collection per day” sequence. So you are going to get a few of my recent master videos tossed in the mix. I have a huge backlog anyway so it all works out.

This was Big Frank’s band, so it made perfect sense that Carry Nation would play the memorial in his honor. I think they sounded good, but one of the band members was a little tough on the critique of his own performance.

Farside- Big Frank Memorial, Garden Amp, Garden Grove Ca 6/22/25 4K Multicam Schoeps Audio Hardcore

The amazing thing about the Big Frank Memorial was not one, but many bands reforming and playing in his honor. This is one of them- Farside had not played in years but reformed to play this set for Big Frank. They were one of the original Revelation records Artists, and probably the most enjoyable set out of the bands I was not too familiar with. Not what I expected at all, and that’s a good thing!

Excel- Big Frank Memorial, Garden Amp, Garden Grove Ca 6/22/25 4K Multicam w/Schoeps Audio Crossover

OK, since nothing continues to work properly with the video capture setup, let’s start these. I have been holding off on posting anything multicamera from the Big Frank Memorial because I was told that there was multitrack audio and I would be getting access to it… possibly sharing angles/footage.. but it has been 8 months and no word so let’s get moving on them.

This show was extremely chaotic. The main stage was fine- plenty of seating and great sight lines. The issue was the tiny “Locker Room” which seemed to be the venue’s green room that was repurposed as a tiny music venue. It was constantly a cluster F in there- you could not get in unless you arrived early. Pair that with the fact that there was no set break in between bands (main stage would end, locker room would start immediately), and you were gonna miss some sets.

So that’s why this Excel set is only 2 camera. 2 of my gopro angles were moved/bumped/dead when I left the Locker Room and came back out to the main stage to see Excel. They were starting their set so there was no way to fix anything. Given all that, it still turned out pretty good. This and Farside were probably my 2 favorite bands I had not seen before. They were both amazing. Wish I had more Excel guitar shots, but good enough. Is the guitarist still the same baby-faced guy from the 80s? He looks super different.
