Warsenal- Blue Lamp, Sacramento Ca. 5/8/18

So I have been slammed with a ton of concerts, work, and life in general. Here comes a ton of stuff all at once. Enjoy!
Warsenal opened the Solstice show. Unfortunately, Morbid Angel gave away free tickets to the Ace of Spades show on the same night so no one was there. They were pretty decent for a thrash metal band.

Backtrack- VFW Hall, Fair Oaks Ca. 2/3/18 Multicam Live NYHC

Man, the lighting at the VFW hall is TOUGH. There is no lighting on anyone who steps to the front of the stage. So, here you have 4 musicians and a silhouette on vocals. Recorded with Canon HFG40/Rode Video Pro Stereo Mic, 1 HFG10 side stage, and 1 gopro behind the drummer.

Red Pills- The Stag, Woodland Ca. 11/11/17 Multicamera with Rode Videomic Pro Stereo Punk

I noticed that there are very few Red Pills videos out there. They played quite a few shows around Sacramento in the 2017/2018 time frame and even got some airplay on Rodney on the Rock. The quality isn’t great, but neither was the Stag’s lighting. Sounded surprisingly great in there though!
Oh, speaking of The Stag… what a bar! It had the craziest mix of punks, local kids who seemed to be metalheads and local farmer types looking for a fight. I almost got punched for urgently requesting a beer from the bartender in between sets. Good times.

Equipment used: Canon HFG30 w/Rode videomic Pro Stereo, Canon HFG10(I think) on tripod, gopro Hero4 silver. The gopro angle is incomplete, we are not ignoring you Kenneth!

FRACK! – The Colony, Sacramento Ca. 7/22/17 Part 1 Black Flag Punk

This really surprised me. I knew that FRACK! went over well at the Jello Biafra show in March, but I had no idea that they had such an intense, loyal following here in town. They went nuts the entire set. The slide guitar songs are so unique. How does that one guy run around the pit the entire night with someone on his back? Impressive. Oh, Black Flag keyword tag because they do a killer cover of “Rise Above” with slide.

Abolitionist- The Colony, Sacramento Ca. 7/22/17 Part 1 Portland Punk

When this show was announced, I was planning to go so I checked out Abolitionist’s bandcamp page. I noticed that these guys recorded in Stan Wright’s (Arctic Flowers) studio which caused my ears to perk up. And, wow. Just when you think that you’ve heard it all… these guys defy categorization. They played way louder than the Colony’s PA could handle. I thought it looked funny that the guys were fruitlessly screaming into mics, but listening to instrumental versions of these songs made me realize how strong they were. I bought every tape & LP they had. LISTEN. Great stuff. PS: Bonus points to the drummer’s old school, late 70’s iron maiden shirt. Dianno rules.

The Polyorchids- The Colony, Sacramento Ca. 7/22/17 Part 1 Canon HFG30 Rode VPS Mic

Man, I love this band. They have that genuine rural sound- it just sounds like woodland/winters, ca. to me. Kinda like Uncle Tupelo sounded like rural Illinois, these guys sound like rural sacramento valley. This was the best show I have ever seen of them and the crowd went nuts. It was like 1,000,000 degrees in the colony. Also, the colony’s PA is having some issues so vocals sound a bit blown out.

Dead Dads- Colonial Theater, Sacramento Ca. 5/27/17 Multicam

Here is Dead Dads’ last show, I think. They played that Colonial Fest that not enough people showed up to (support your scene folks).
I almost didn’t get this one edited, because I set the gopro up in a hurry and it is positioned in a way that Lys’ head is a cymbal. Ugh- the gopro was new, I was still learning.

The Moans- Cafe Colonial, Sacramento Ca. 11/5/16 Pt. 1 F**k Cancer

Sorry about the audio quality on this one. If you want your video to sound good, you *never* go behind the PA mains. Well, in order to get Jeff (drummer) in the shot, I had to put my mic directly under the PA main, which gives it kind of a garbled sound. Thankfully with was Matt Bennett’s smooooooth pop punk vocals or it would have been worse. I’ve already mentioned Danny Secretion’s benefit (GO TONIGHT), but I also wanted to mention the Café Colonial. It is the best all ages venue in the city. There is just a relaxed vibe (courtesy of matt marrujo) and it is very inclusive. There is a wonderful mix of creative people here of all backgrounds, ages (I’m the old one) and the food & drink is good & reasonably priced. They have FREE retro video game events and movie nights. You should go one night… but tonight, you are going to the Blue Lamp. Remember?
