Jason Lytle & Virgil Shaw- 1st Friday Fest, 10th Street Plaza, Modesto Ca. 9/6/19 4K UHD LIVE

My plans for this past Friday changed pretty much the second I saw Middagh Goodwin’s post on Wednesday. Jason Lytle was playing Modesto’s version of Sac’s second saturday. It was nice to finally see him play- he rarely performs and it has been years since I last saw a show.

He swapped songs with Virgil Shaw, who used to be in Brent’s TV (Gilman Connection) & Dieselhad in the 80s/90s. Great stuff- he is very entertaining to watch – very animated.

We get a new song from Jason that he wrote in his truck that morning- called “Going to Hell”.

Huge thanks to Middagh for booking this show.

Joel Geronimo & Lefty- 1st Friday Fest, 10th Street Plaza, Modesto Ca. 9/6/19 4K UHD LIVE

Joel Geronimo & Lefty opened the 1st friday fest show with Jason Lytle. I don’t know a lot about him, but I thought it was pretty good- good enough to pull the camera out. Sorry for the low audio levels- one of the downsides of the GH5S is that the levels don’t adjust high enough- even when I have the Rode mic on the highest sensitivity setting. Turn it up!

The Ghost Town Rebellion- Chalk it Up, Fremont Park, Sacramento Ca. 9/1/19 4k UHD Live Lumix GH5S

Here’s the last set I filmed on Sunday- The Ghost Town Rebellion. They have an americana/roots sound and they sing about Sacramento/California history. Pretty cool. This was their bass player’s debut gig- well done!

Dan Janisch- Chalk it Up, Fremont Park, Sacramento Ca. 9/1/19 4k UHD Live Rode Videomic Pro Stereo

I had not seen Dan Janisch perform in about 20 years(!)- I’m familiar with his music but have not listened much in years. He was excellent- captivating performance! He has a great voice, great songwriting skills and is a talented player… what’s not to love?
Sorry for the bouncy camera at times- I was a ways back and I was multitasking with family.

Dr. Frank- Chalk it Up, Fremont Park, Sacramento 9/1/19 4K UHD MTX Mr. T Experience

After Metalachi at Denio’s, we went downtown to the Chalk it Up fest. I had a sleeping toddler in the car, so my wife stayed with him and my daughter & I went to catch the last 5min of Kepi’s set and Dr. Frank.
I thought that I had focused the camera when I started filming Kepi, but apparently I screwed up (I blame Dad multitasking) so Kepi’s set is all blurry as is the first 10min of Dr. Frank’s set. I finally decide to focus about 2 min into “Deep Deep Down”, which is my favorite song that Frank does acoustic.
Don’t miss Frank (and MTX) and Kepi (with Roy from the muffs and B-face) doing full band sets at the blue lamp on 9/20. I know a lot is going on that night, but you should go… then book it over to Old Ironsides after the show to catch Mike Watt.

Kevin & Allyson Seconds & Friends- Chalk it Up, Fremont Park, Sacramento 9/1/19 4K UHD LIVE

I realized that I forgot to post Kevin and Allyson’s set from Chalk it up last week- it was all of the usual staples of their live set. My battery conked out at the end so it cuts off abruptly.

Metalachi- Denio’s Farmers Market & Auction, Roseville Ca 9/1/19 4K UHD LIVE

For my birthday, I asked my family to come with me to a series of shows/festivals on Sunday. This was the first one- Metalachi at Denio’s. This is the PERFECT venue to see this band. It was amazingly cheesily awesome. If you are unaware of Metalachi’s greatness, they do mariachi versions of all your favorite metal classics.

I was too far away to use my standard lens, so I grabbed the 100-400 to use for the first time… and it was a bit too close to the action. I could not pan back and get the entire band and a lens change was out of the question. It is still pretty cool, and you get to watch me fumble around in search of where that guitar lead was coming from. I would have never guess that it was the violinist- she kicked ass.

First set only.
