The Rosebuds- Harlow’s, Sacramento Ca. 12/22/18 Multicamera Jerry Perry Benefit Taperjim + 3Cameras

Last December, many of us got together to help our friend Jerry Perry at a benefit concert. 6 bands from Jerry’s long booking history stepped up to play sets for the sold out show.
The Rosebuds opened the show, and I was so excited to see them! I was friends with them back in the late 80s/early 90s and I liked the band, but I really didn’t fully appreciate them until later on. They got together for the first time since the early 90s, wrote song in tribute to Jerry, and played a great set for the early crowd.
Thanks to Marc Malakie for making this happen & promoting the show, Brian McKenna for providing venue + promotion, plus Eric, Dennis and many more for their hard work to make it happen.

Nothing But a Nightmare- Harlow’s, Sacramento Ca. 12/22/18 Multicamera Jerry Perry Benefit Taperjim

Man, it was hard to tell if the first few minutes were just an extended intro- I considered trimming it off but kept it as is. The rocking starts at 3:30.

KAI KLN- Harlow’s, Sacramento Ca. 12/22/18 Jerry Perry Benefit Multicam Live w/Matrix Audio Taperjim

Damn, this video is good. HUGE thanks to Jim for putting so much into this- it sounds fantastic and the edit is excellent! Funny story- I had to run upstairs to get my camera & recorder from Momo so I missed the start of the set. I just tossed a gopro next to Neil Franklin and he ended up whacking it during the first song! He readjusted it and it happened to be a perfect drum angle. Sometimes it is nice to be lucky.

The place was packed for Kai Kln’s set- it was the most full I had ever seen Harlow’s. ~$10k raised for Jerry & family- well done everyone!

GILLIAN UNDERWOOD- Momo, Sacramento Ca. 12/22/18 Jerry Perry Benefit Taperjim + 3 Cameras

Marc had a great setup for the show- one band would play downstairs, and then you could run upstairs to Momo to see an acoustic artist play a set before the next band played downstairs.
Gillian Underwood was the first person to play upstairs. Very nice set- I had not heard her before.

JONAH MATRANGA- Momo, Sacramento Ca. 12/22/18 Jerry Perry Benefit Canon HFG30 Matrix Audio Taperjim

Jonah headlined the Momo stage- it was packed up there for his set and he played a bit longer than his allotted set time. I could hear Kai Kln starting their set downstairs about 20-25 minutes into Jonah’s set, but thankfully it did not come through in the recording.

THE TROUBLE MAKERS- Harlow’s, Sacramento Ca. 12/22/18 Multicam Jerry Perry Benefit Taperjim + 3 Cam

Man, I love it when Jim gives the retro bands that retro look in the video. Enjoy The Trouble Makers’ set is beautiful black and white… or is that sepia tone. I can’t tell, I am colorblind.
This was a scorching set by the band. It seems that every band really stepped it up for the occasion, which made the night even more fun. Like Eric said, The Trouble Makers were the only band who has stayed active since the early 90s!

HANNAH LINGRELL- Momo, Sacramento 12/22/18 Jerry Perry Benefit Single cam w/Soundboard Audio

During the set break between Nothing But a Nightmare & 99 tales downstairs, Hannah Lingrell performed her set upstairs. It was nonstop music all night long. Features an appearance by Kevin Seconds.
It looks like I had the camera mounted too low for the first few minutes, but either Jim McLain or I corrected it.

ANTON BARBEAU- Momo, Sacramento Ca. 12/22/18 Jerry Perry Benefit Taperjim + 3 Cameras collab

Right after The Trouble Makers’ set ended, Anton Barbeau played his acoustic set upstairs at Momo. Anton is tall and I was multitasking, so I cut off part of his head (on the video, not in real life). For that I apologize.

Civil War Rust- Vinnie’s Bar and Grill, Concord Ca. 12/15/18 Multicam Live

I saw Civil War Rust for the first time at Casa de Chaos and they grabbed me right away. They released the EXCELLENT Help Wanted album a short time after, and they became my favorite “bay area” band.
I was cursed to never see them, or video them properly. They would always play at times when it was impossible for me to get away for shows (Thanksgiving, Valentines Day). Then they played TIMFest- I was finally going to see them in a good venue! Well, the show was moved to a house party where everyone thought I was a middle aged narc. D’oh.
Then the appeared to break up, or at least go into hibernation for a while. They re-emerged late last year with a new bass player & drummer, and new songs! I went to this show with Ground Chuck and Cory Wiegert. I was late and hauled ass at 80mph all the way to Concord- no bathroom breaks. I handed the door lady a fistful of ones and 5’s and ran into the venue to set up. I learned later that I underpaid… whoops! I got my cameras set up about 30 seconds before they started. Still turned out OK!
