OFF! – Boardwalk, Orangevale Ca 11/15/16 HD Multicam w/Matrix Audio partial Keith Morris

OK kids, settle in. Gramps is going to go on for a bit.
Back in 2016, I went to Keith’s book signing at Dimple Records (R.I.P.) and asked if I could video their show at the Boardwalk that night. He referred me to the “documentary guys”. So I get to the club and find out that they are filming a mockumentary about OFF!, called Watermelon. At first, the crew was all “we think we have this handled. what kind of gear do you have”. I opened my camera backpack and they stared at the crazy guy with all this high end (at the time) gear. I got permission to film, provided that I hand them the footage for the movie. I sent it over to them in late 2016.

7 years go by and OFF! releases the Free LSD movie and breaks up. I assume that this is what the mockumentary became and that Watermelon was never going to be released. So I email the producer and no… they are still planning to release Watermelon and Free LSD was a different project entirely. They ask that I continue to hold back the footage, but I can post a few songs if I’d like.

So that brings us to today. Dean Crist asked for this one and Derek Clark was interested as well. This was back when I could pole mount cameras at the Boardwalk, haha. Anyway, the full show exists and I should be able to share once the movie is released.

Equipment used: I don’t remember all of it, but it definitely used Canon HF G30 and maybe a G50, along with gopro Hero 4 silver.
Audio was probably a matrix of the Rode Videomic Pro Stereo and soundboard

O’Mulligans- Press Club, Sacramento Ca. 11/14/16 Part 1 Canon HFG30 and Rode Video Pro Stereo Mic

I got to the show a little late and was setting up right as the band was getting ready to start. I asked for a song and they played it- A cover of The Cure’s “Boys Don’t Cry”. This show sounded better than any press club show I have been to- thanks Chris!

D.I. – Cooper’s Ale Works, Nevada City Ca. 11/12/16 Multicam with Rode Audio

Man, this was a fun night. D.I. cancelled a show this weekend at The Colony and I noticed they played San Jose the night before, so I thought I’d look them up to see if they were playing anywhere… and they were playing only an hour away! Cooper’s is a great place to see a show. It is tiny, but I was still able to cram 4 cameras in there. I was constantly getting bumped with the monopod by the bar, but it didn’t really matter. Still awesome. Also, I turn around while filming and I see a familiar face- Brandon from Bliss! I had not seen him for over 25 years, but I recognized him and he remembered me! How awesomely random. Great show and a really nice edit job by Agelos. Thank you.

Angel Du$t- Oakland Metro, Oakland Ca. 11/11/16 Multicam Hardcore

I don’t know if you have been to the new Metro, but it is pretty much impossible to do a multicam in that place. It is HUGE and it is all one big floor with no place to mount cameras. So I was really happy that Lolita B. (youtube channel threeontheteeth) agreed to send her footage to we could do a 2 camera multicam. Crazy show! Thanks to Agelos for the edit.

The Moans- Cafe Colonial, Sacramento Ca. 11/5/16 Pt. 1 F**k Cancer

Sorry about the audio quality on this one. If you want your video to sound good, you *never* go behind the PA mains. Well, in order to get Jeff (drummer) in the shot, I had to put my mic directly under the PA main, which gives it kind of a garbled sound. Thankfully with was Matt Bennett’s smooooooth pop punk vocals or it would have been worse. I’ve already mentioned Danny Secretion’s benefit (GO TONIGHT), but I also wanted to mention the Café Colonial. It is the best all ages venue in the city. There is just a relaxed vibe (courtesy of matt marrujo) and it is very inclusive. There is a wonderful mix of creative people here of all backgrounds, ages (I’m the old one) and the food & drink is good & reasonably priced. They have FREE retro video game events and movie nights. You should go one night… but tonight, you are going to the Blue Lamp. Remember?

Destroy Boys- Cafe Colonial, Sacramento Ca. 11/5/16 Pt. 1 F**k Cancer

I was out to dinner so I got to the show late and Destroy Boys were already playing. I think I miss only 1 song. If you have not heard, Destroy Boys are a newer band in Sac, loved by Green Day and the children of long-time sacramento musicians. Fun Band. I try to make it out to at least one of Danny Secretion’s benefit shows each year to support the cause. There have been so many people in my family affected by cancer. My Mom (RIP), my Brother (RIP), my dad, friends and co-workers (Jeff Loose and Vicki Allen Auguston) and many more. There is one more show of the F**k Cancer series and it is tonight at the Blue Lamp. It starts at 5pm so you will be home in bed by 10. You should come out- everyone’s waiting for you to show. Filmed with a Canon HFG30 and Rode Video Pro Mic.
