Since word is coming out that Old Ironsides has been sold, I figured I would post a couple of classic Old I shows as a tribute to longtime owners (the Kanelos family). So many amazing shows happened there over the years- the first time I even heard of the place was due to a surprise Pavement show happening in early 1993 while I lived in Whittier. So many fun moments there, but my favorite was probably the Barbara Manning show – it was the last show of a 6 week tour that I booked, it was my birthday, and they bought me a cake and brought me up on stage to sing happy birthday.
Anyway, here is a show that Jim McLain and I taped about 20 years ago. Jim has always been Old I’s taping mainstay, thank goodness. I think this was a soundboard/audience matrix with Jim’s mics. I plugged my DAT in as well.
For the uninitiated- Jay was in Wilco from 1995-2001 and was a driving force behind the early albums.. especially Summerteeth. A documentary “Where are You Jay Bennett” was released recently.
