4 Non Blondes- KROQ Almost Acoustic Xmas, Universal Amphitheater, L.A. 12/11/93 DAT Master xfer Live

Happy Monday all- back to the KROQ Acoustic Xmas 93 stuff. Here is SF’s 4 Non Blondes playing after Tony Bennett and before TMBG. What a lineup!

Over the next few weeks (weekdays), I will be posting sets from the 1993 Almost Acoustic Xmas. On the night of Dec 11th, I was driving to grab dinner for the family and I turn on KROQ and I hear that they were broadcasting the entire show live on the radio! I listened to KROQ regularly back then and did not recall any advertising for the broadcast. I hauled ass back home and grabbed a DAT and started recording. I was broke back then, so I have these sets scattered over about 5 DATs. I think I only lost a couple minutes of one set due to tape change- General Public. I even was able to edit in the interviews from other sections of the tape. The Blind Melon interview is a sad foreshadow of their future.
Anyway, hope you enjoy these. I became a fan of at least a few of these bands through this broadcast.

Evan Dando- KROQ Almost Acoustic Xmas, Universal Amp, L.A. 12/11/93 DAT Master xfer Lemonheads

Next up on the 93 Almost Acoustic Xmas show are the Lemonheads. Well, it is actually just Dando but it was billed as the Lemonheads. 93-95 was the height of Lemonheads mania, so you can hear a lot of beatles-like screaming fans in between songs. Great stuff!

Belly- KROQ Almost Acoustic Xmas, Universal Amphitheater L.A. 12/11/93 Tanya Donnelly Acoustic Live

Here is the set that made me a Belly fan for life. The single being played on KROQ (Feed the Tree) didn’t do much for me so I didn’t buy the CD… but when I heard this set I snagged the CD and every release since. Such a great band. Tanya’s solo stuff is underrated as well.
They get away with cursing on air during this set- Tanya blurts out “shit” after a false start during Slow Dog.

Bad Religion- KROQ Almost Acoustic Xmas, Universal Amphitheater L.A. 12/11/93 DAT Master Punk covers

This and the Belly sets are probably my favorite sets of the 1993 concerts. There is nothing acoustic about this show- it kicks ass! includes multiple xmas classics and the hear n aid hit “Don’t they know it’s Christmastime”. It’s a fun listen

Cowboy Junkies- KROQ Almost Acoustic Xmas, Universal Amphitheater L.A. 12/11/93 xfer from DAT Master

KROQ lost the signal on this one from 1:30-4:00 in. They talk about it later in the broadcast- apparently they were in the mobile truck and someone used the car lighter and it blew a fuse… and the broadcast. Not sure if that was meant as a joke, but they were talking about how shaky the entire thing was.
