The Drags- Honey Sucka Pighead Jive Turkey Fool Demo No. 3 8/13/93 xfer f/master cassette Ramones

Last one for today, from Mark Murray’s collection. Keepin’ it local! This one has the 4 songs listed (that IS a Ramones cover) and a bonus unreleased song called “Tower Girl”. Keepin’ with the Tower Records theme today as well.

One last thing about the trip to Portland- I was crazy busy from first thing Saturday morning until I got back at 1pm today. On the plane on Saturday, I started to see aura and took the 1 imitrex (migraine super med) I had with me.. and then I proceeded to have brutal headaches all weekend. I don’t know if it was lack of sleep, lack of food, water or caffeine. It’s the first time I traveled since last November and I have apparently become as delicate as a tomogotchi. Not enough rest? dead. etc. No idea why it happened this time. I had to push a flight this AM because I could not get out of bed. I feel fine now though. Maybe I am allergic to Portland.

Audio Demo

The Crooks- Lincoln Park, Manitowoc Wi 8/13/93 xfer from 1st gen VHS tape Midwest punk band

Yet another one from Jason Ross’ collection of VHS tapes. I only did a small percentage of his collection, but they all seem to be on the right days for the On This Date project.

I attempted to research who the band is.. and there are a LOT of bands called the Crooks! Man, what an ordeal. I think that this is The Crooks who released 1 7″ record on the Def Wisconsin label and had the following members:
Bass – Eric P “Gabby”
Drums – Neil P.
Guitar – Aric M “Mighty Boy”, L.P. “Gulvin”
Vocals – Duanne K

The audio on this is very low. This was done before I knew how to boost audio in Vegas/Premiere. Sorry. Turn it up.

Live Concert Video

The Fastbacks- Blind Pig, Ann Arbor Mi. 8/11/93 xfer from 2nd gen audio cassette Live

The Fastbacks are one of my all-time favorites and a band that I feel doesn’t get nearly the love they deserve. Here is a show from the legendary Blind Pig in Ann Arbor Mi.
The recording is clear but it was lacking in low end. I had to boost the hell out of the lows, and drop the mids and highs to get this result. Just imagine what it sounded like before! Yikes!!

Dr Timothy Leary- KROQ Loveline, Pasadena Ca. 8/3/93 xfer from master audio cassette

Bonus post today. “Tell Me What to Do” patreon subscriber Adam Vijay Dristle asked for this one, so he gets it! One of my big regrets from living in So Cal from 1992-1995 was missing so many of these radio broadcasts. I should have been taping loveline every time someone notable was on. I got a few and I am sure that Adam will ensure that we all get to hear them. Thanks Adam!
P.S.: Primus is not on the broadcast, this was the only photo I could find of Timothy from 1993 (photo by Jay Blakesburg)

Bay City Rollers- KROQ Loveline, Pasadena Ca 8/2/93 xfer from master audio cassettes

It’s another Patreon “Tell Me What to Do” bonus post today! You too can tell me what to do. Head over to Patreon and order me around please.

Thanks to Adam Dristle for requesting this one. I have no idea why it says that this is 80min long on my list. It’s closer to 100.

Thanks to Adam for the only known pic of Adam and Riki doing this show together. UPDATE: This show is actually pre-Riki, with Poorman and Drew. Whoops! Not redoing it. Enjoy the incorrect photo. 🙂

Moist- Cattle Club, Sacramento Ca 8/1/93 Mark Murray Master Sacramento Punk

OK, everyone who responded to my facebook post wants more local bands. I encourage you to check out Jim Mclain’s youtube channel- he has been documenting MORE local stuff than I have since about 2000. This video comes courtesy of Mark Murray- thanks Mark for digging this out of the garage and transferring it for everyone to see! Here’s Moist at Cattle in 1993!

Live Concert Video

RKL- Slovenia 1993 xfer from band archive DAT Soundboard w/Bomer on vocals. R.K.L. Rich Kids on LSD

Here’s one from Barry Ward’s collection. I had posted the other show from this DAT a few months ago and labeled it as “Slovenia/barcelona”, but this one is definitely the Slovenia show.

The bass was pretty overwhelming in the mix, so I rebalanced everything else upward to make it sounds a little better. Bomer’s vocals were really loud in the mix and soft seconds later. It sounded like he wasn’t singing into the mic consistently. I did my best to make it sound decent.
