Here’s a unique set by AC- the biggest Chilton fan/collector I know (Ross Weyman) had never heard him perform the Canned Heat or Professor Longhair covers before. That club looks tiny.

The Accused- Payne Field, Everett Wa 4/12/86 xfer from unknown gen audio cassette splatter rock punk

After much ado, here is one from Chris Eng’s collection. I thought I had one ready from him on Monday, only to see that Lord Pryderi already posted it. Then it was a hunt through his boxes of tapes for something that hadn’t been posted before. I found a few, but here is one that I enjoyed.
Here’s a show from The Accused during my favorite era- Return of Martha Splatterhead. The channel separation and the lack of distortion makes it sounds like it was recorded on one of those old boom boxes with decent mics. Not saying it sounds particularly great, but it’s not bad and a very early show.

Note: Show was moved to Payne field according to Blaine Cook… and he should know

RKL- V.I.S. Club, San Francisco 4/5/86 xfer from band archive cassette tape Rich Kids on LSD R.K.L.

Huge thanks to Barry Ward for giving the OK for this one to be posted. It is really cool to hear some early RKL sets that sound pretty decent, quality-wise. Punk recordings from the mid-80s were usually sketchy at best.
I looked for way too long for a photo of the VIS, which is now The Independent. The best I could find was a pic of the club in 1991, when it was the Kennel Club.

Fairport Convention- Alexander Teatret, Copenhagen Denmark 4/4/86 Sony D5 2x Sony ECM150 Master xfer

Today’s on this day in history goes out to Ken Dixon, who had a recent health scare. When I posted the Arlo Guthrie tape last weekend, he responded (from the hospital) with “Folk You!”. Glad to know he was feeling better, haha.

So, Folk You all again. I get all geeky excited with tapes like this- this was probably recorded by a deadhead, as they were the ones who had the best gear. The Sony TCD-D5 was THE best cassette deck for taping. It was huge but perfect for producing high quality live recordings. The cassette master tape was bounced to DAT and I have a 1st clone of that. Sounds great!

The venue is confusing. The tape was labeled ALEXANDRA CULTURE CLUB, COPENHAGEN DENMARK. When I look that up online, I am told it is a hotel. I did some further digging and I think it is this place. Maybe, maybe not.

Man, I have not seen Fairport since 1998. I really need to get to Cropredy before they hang it up.

Insurgency- Ruthie’s Inn, Berkeley Ca 4/4/86 xfer from master audio cassette- audience rec full set

Happy mediocre Monday! Wayne Vanderkuil blesses us with another early master tape. I had debated posting this since there is a nice quality board tape already posted (by Dan Hague/Distort Oakland), but I realized that this tape is the complete show. They played about 15-20min, broke a string and took a while to replace it… then the board tape seems to be that post-string replacement pt2 of the show. You get the entire thing here. Thanks Wayne!

Vomit- Ruthie’s Inn, Berkeley Ca. 4/4/86 xfer from master cassette tape bay area thrash metal

Hey kids, how about a little Vomit for lunch? This one is a (relatively) nice sounding tape from Wayne Vanderkuil’s collection. I looked through all of the Vomit bands on discogs and I can find nothing about this band. I can’t imagine this being the Greek band Vomit which were active at the time- I don’t think they would come from Greece to open a show at Ruthies. If anyone has info about who does what in the band, please let me know.
It’s not bad! Vocalist sounds like Andy Andersen at times.

RKL- Ruthie’s Inn, Berkeley Ca. 4/4/86 xfer from band archive cassette R.K.L. Rich Kids on LSD

It’s mediocre Monday everybody! Gotta love work stress. This show is definitely mediocre quality, but it is so funny. The flyer shows a Beer Drinker’s Night promotion, where you get admission and a drink ticket for $6. It was pretty clear that the people around the recorder were pretty hammered- it was like listening to a party with RKL playing in the background.
Still awesome due to the rarity- from Barry Ward’s archive.

Anthrax- Harpo’s, Detroit Mi 4/3/86 xfer from 1st gen VHS tape Thrash Metal

I figured that I would post this one first and give you some time to join the Patreon voting tier (only $10/mo) before I send out the vote this afternoon/evening. Next vote- “no list” audio- usually soundboards/etc that I taped and were sensitive at the time. Sign up- it’s fun!

One of my first VHS tape traders in the 80s was a guy based in Detroit who had a ton of great/unique stuff. He had a lot of shows filmed at Harpo’s in high quality. Most of those tapes are now gone from the great VHS purge of 2002, but I was able to get an upgraded copy of this one. I wonder who taped this- I don’t know if (legendary filmer) Otto did smaller venues such as these…

Anyway, this is an EARLY Joey Belladonna show. So cool.

M.D.C.- The Farm, San Francisco Ca 4/3/86 xfer from master soundboard tape rebalanced Millions Dead

Since yesterday’s Bam Bam tape was pulled down, here is a bonus post to make up for it. This is M.D.C.’s set from the same night. Man, this sounds great as well. Probably one of the best MDC mixes I have heard. This AND the Bam Bam was on one side of the tape- wow!

Bam Bam- The Farm, San Francisco 4/3/86 xfer master soundboard tape Tina Bell Pre Seattle Grunge

In the last box of goodies that James R Edmonds sent over, he sent me an MDC soundboard master tape to digitize… and this happened to be on the end of the tape. I couldn’t believe it, but it does appear to be an uncirculated Bam Bam recording. Bam Bam were the forebearers of grunge by some accounts, forming in 1983 with Matt Cameron (Pearl Jam) on drums. They put out some material on cassette and released a highly sought after 7″ in 1984. They finally got at least some recognition with a posthumous vinyl release in 2022 along with some press. Check them out, it’s pretty interesting.
So I raved to James about having this tape, and how much the PNW archive folks will appreciate it, so don’t let me down!
