Terrible news came out last night of Clif Croce’s passing at 65 years old. The Freeze were one of my favorite bands and were active once again in the past year or so. I was excited to see them again.
Today is all Freeze, all day except for the On This date.
I will write more about “devoted to the fans” stuff later but here is a great post by Jed Hresko about Clif:
The Abbie Hoffman of our generation. Lead singer of one of the most influential hardcore bands in New England – and despite his long Walter White phase – one of the only HC bands from that era still playing regularly. He also wrote many songs that pulled no punches regarding that chaos.
Godfather of punk rock on the Cape. Voice of the Cape “year-rounders.” Brilliant lyricist. Occasionally a royal pain yet genuinely kind to friends, fans and bandmates. Totally devoted to the fans.
That’s just some of the story.
This recording was dated 6/17/84 from San Francisco, but that does not seem possible as they were in Sacramento at the Vortograph that night. They played a few shows while they were in SF that week. This is not the soundtrack from the multicamera video- this is a separate soundboard recording.
