Here’s my Fluid master from Cattle. In general, I have been holding back the shows of mine that Jim Mclain mixed as 2 camera shows, as these are redundant… But I really like this one. This was another show where they had the short P.A. so I could shoot from the better side of the stage. Filmed with the Aiwa CV80 and Sony ECM909 mic.

The first band NOT from Seattle to be signed to the Sub Pop label, The Fluid came from Denver, Colorado. Live at the Cattle Club, Sacramento, CA, this is the full set.

I know we already have multiple versions of this show on the archive- Jim’s edit of my & Jerry’s angle, my single cam version, and here is “Anonymous”‘s audio recording. This recording was uncirculated until now, and sounds better than the video soundtrack in my opinion. It should, Anonymous had better audio recording gear than me back then. Still does now.

Here is the first of 2 Patreon Voter’s Choice selections in a row. The always tasteful, on point patrons picked not one, but TWO of my master videos from 35+ years ago. And this one has a story…
The bill was The Fluid/Dinosaur Jr. I got the OK to film The Fluid and you see that set here. I tried talking to J before the Dino Jr set and it was impossible to have a cohesive conversation with him. I was desperately trying to ask permission to video but it was impossible. So I put my camera back in my bag. UGH. I should have just filmed the damned show.
These have never been posted because the videos were so dark, you could not see anything. Thanks to lossless transfers and the ability to adjust exposure and brightness at the source in virtualdub, you can now actually see the band perform. Same with the one tomorrow.
Oh, and my hearing loss? Motorhead at the Oasis in 1985 destroyed it, but filming shows like this just finished it off. Poor ears.
Btw, that is probably the coolest YT thumbnail I have ever created

Doing this “posting from more collections” project took a LOT of cleanup around the studio and on the youtube channel. For example, this one- I found this in draft mode on youtube- I had digitized this 2 YEARS ago and forgot to post it. Derp.
Back in the late 80s, my best friend Anonymous 1 and I would hit a ton of shows together. He probably deserves credit for getting my ass to Gilman so much, especially in the early days. A lot of the time, he would audiotape and I would video with the Aiwa CV-80 dinosaur camera. Sometimes I would not be up for a road trip and he would cover stuff himself. This is one that he covered himself, audio only. It’s odd that The Fluid would play Chico on 9/19, then not get to Cattle until 9 days later. The Cattle Club video (shot by me) is up on the archive you want to see that one.
