Time for a new series of master recordings. I am grateful to be invited to the Old Tyme Davis Jamboree at Sudwerk last Saturday. An unbelievable number of Davis bands got back together for one night and played 10-20 minute sets. These will be posting over the next few months. I think the rest (beside this one) are multicamera with schoeps audio. Every minute of every band was filmed, except 2. Acme rocket Quintet was off stage and played in between bands- I got some but not all. And I had to get home to my son, so I had to bail on the Curbfeelers. UGGH.

I got there right when the first “stage” band started (totally on brand for me.. sorry) so I only got 1 camera of the first band- Toasted Sweeties.

Toasted Sweeties are/were Johanna Kyser on drums and vocals (Thornucopia, The Mummydogs), Susy Baker, and Michelle Lewis.

It was 100 degrees at showtime and there were cooling misters on full-blast, everywhere. That kept the better cameras (the DSLRs) in the bag and I used the Canon HFG60. It’s nice and it’s rugged- I could video without freaking out about mist or heat– but it only records at 30fps. This is the main camera I used for most of the show. Tough lighting too with the intense sun and shadows, until the sun went down. Like my friend Anonymous said “It’s like a double black diamond difficulty level”. Indeed.
