Here’s a fun one for This Date in History. I got this from the guy who taped it, but I cannot recall who it is. I think it is the same guy who filmed a bunch of ska bands at Spanky’s Cafe in Riverside, including a super early show of No Doubt. Surprisingly not on youtube yet. Check out the crowd for this one- the entire crowd is doing one huge pogo at times. Wow! They weren’t even the headlining band- that would be Bim Skala Bim. It’s a really fun watch, especially if you are a fan of ska.

Let’s start today with the Patreon Voter’s Choice! There is a backstory on this one. My friend Matt Polish used to be good friends with Slayer in the 1980s- he was so close to the band that he would fly to southern cal and stay at Jeff’s house for a week at a time. Kerry would fly up to Sacramento to see someone he was dating and I would pick him up at the airport and drive him around. Sometimes he would give or loan me tapes such as this one when he came up.
This one was a loan and I only had a day or so to get it copied. I begged our next door neighbor to do it at the time and after he heard Tom’s intro to Necrophiliac, he let me know that there would be no more copies on his equipment. LOL. Unfortunately I could only get the entire tape copied once, in 4 hour mode (the obscure VHS “LP” mode).
So since we were voting on patreon for a “D” video, my super-awesome voting patrons once again had great taste and picked this one. It’s DRI’s opening set on the 7th. It’s pretty cool and at shows the band at their absolute peak. I saw them a couple weeks before this and it was life changing.
I have a board tape of this show as well (not from Kerry) that I could synch, but the audio isn’t bad here.

Here’s the second(and last) one from Tour Manager Doug for the week. This recording has not been posted/circulated to my knowledge. There is a document of the show on Youtube, but it is a grainy video suffering from generation loss. That’s where I got this image to use- I could not find a flyer. I not only pushed the EQ as much as I could in Sound Forge on this one, but I also took that result and ran it through Izotope Rx8. I hope it doesn’t sound overprocessed and weird. Sounded ok to me.
