Superchunk- Black Cat, Washington DC 2/28/98 xfer f/ DAT Soundboard Clone Indie Rock Elliott Smith

Today’s On This Day post is a good one. My old friend Marcus Winfree would tape a lot of the better indie rock bands through the soundboard when they came through town- he did multiple Archers of Loaf shows and more than one of Superchunk. I got to meet him unexpectedly when he and I were at the same Grand Champeen show in Austin a few years back. Huge thanks to him for documenting all of these shows.
There was no flyer/poster or even a newspaper ad for this show, so I took the setlist off setlist dot fm and they do an Unrest and an Elliott Smith cover! This was from a tour with Neutral Milk Hotel.

Built to Spill- Black Cat, Washington DC 5/17/97 xfer f/ DAT clone rebalanced complete show 3 piece

Aw man, I kinda blew it with today’s On This Date in History. I always try to post unique content daily. This one was uploaded to Internet Archive and I did not check. There are 2 things that DO make this version unique: This is from a 48khz DAT clone (not a CDR rip like the internet archive one) and the drums were way too high in the mix, so I rebalanced this in Izotope. Enjoy!

Archers of Loaf- Black Cat, Washington DC 7/26/96 xfer from DAT Soundboard Clone Eric bachmann

I need to make this quick- I didn’t realize I had to be somewhere this early. Here is one that my friend Marcus Winfree taped for today’s On This Date in History. The snare was overpowering the mix so I rebalanced everything else to make it sound better. Oddly there is no documentation of this show so you get a generic tour shirt image.
