Here’s one for my friend Jim Utz for today’s “On This Day in History”. Thanks to Mike Siou for letting us know which show that Pavement and Stereolab performed encores together- I would have never found it without his help.
My list shows this as an EX- rated audience recording, but it is pretty clearly a board tape- I have a vague memory of being asked to list it as an audience tape due to the sensitivity of the tape. Because of that, I am only posting the 1 song encore. Sorry, I always post full sets but I don’t want old friends to be upset if the full set shows up on a bootleg. My DAT has glitches anyway, don’t get too excited. This one song sounds clean.
one more thing- I know that the image used is not from this show. I could not find any posters/flyers for this show, but I found a ticket stub from 1999 where they both played. Good enough.

Today’s Audio collections post comes from Jason Ross’ tapes. He has a ton of punk recordings from the 1990’s, which is an era that is lacking in my collection.
This tape had some hum and hiss so it was Izotope to the rescue once again. There is still a little noise, but it is way better than it was. It’s a quality recording- sounds like a pro walkman job.

Today’s On This Date in History actually IS Thin White Rope. I know I threatened to post a lousy quality FM broadcast from Roskilde yesterday, but this one is much better quality⦠even with the odd “taping outdoors” high end swirl.
This is the band’s 2nd to last show ever, with the final one being the well-documented show from Democrazy in Gent Belgium.
The recording was lacking bass and guitar (I think the taper was right next to the PA main) so I did my best to fix it up in Izotope.
I got this directly from the taper, but I (once again) can’t remember their name.
Whatta festival lineup, btw!

Rebalance in Izotope Rx8: Bass +7.5, Guitar +6.
We have a couple of good ones for you today. First on is today’s “On This Day in History”. I got this in a CDR trade 25+ years ago, and the writing on the CDR does not look familiar. Lineage is Cassette soundboard-minidisc-CDR. How’s that for a totally 90s lineage?
This thing sounds fantastic. The venue is huge, I wonder what the bill looked like. Was firehose that big in belgium, where they could fill a 2,000 seat venue? Wow, good for them.
