It’s time for the local spotlight!
Man, this is a bit harder than I thought it would be. I was going to put up a 100 Acre Wood CD, but I discovered it was already on youtube after I worked it up. Then I tried a rap artist named Mac Rell. Nope, also on YT.
So Duval Speck it is. I found an old website (at least 15 years old) with info about the band, but their official website is now gone. If this disc is still available new (beside the ONE at Armadillo Music), let me know. I try not to post commercially available CD’s. Only rare/out of print for this project. It looks like Cathy Speck passed in 2021. Rest in Peace.
Linda Duval and Cathy Speck are a folk-pop duo who perform occasionally around Davis coffee houses, the Farmers Market, and The Co-op. They often collaborate with other musicians in groups such as The Essentials and She 3.
Duval Speck have two albums, Green Eye, Blue Eye, released in 1998, and “Thanks For Waiting,” released in 2008. You can buy both at The Co-op or contact them. They used to host the annual Women’s Music Nite, where female singer/songwriters from all over come to showcase their talents. However, most of their activities have been greatly curtailed as Cathy has been battling ALS, otherwise known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. She blogs and sings about this (blog+song=blong) at her blong.
In November 2013, Duval Speck received the Harmony in Our Lives Award.
