Here’s the last post of the day, and the last of our rare RHCP recordings. I had posted a different version of this show, from Anonymous 2’s collection (totally different guy). This is Anonymous’ version, done with his Aiwa handheld recorder with stock mic. I think it sounds pretty damned good for a non-pro 1988 recording. Can you believe that two people were recording this? Kinda blows me away. Both are still active in the scene today, which is another mind-blowing fact.

If you haven’t seen the new Hillel Slovak documentary, it’s worth a watch. I am a casual fan of the early stuff and it was excellent.

Believe it or not, BOTH of our anonymous contributors to the archive taped this show, and neither recording ever circulated in trading circles. This is Anonymous 2’s version, which cleaned up pretty nicely after a dramatic EQ job.

Danzig- WTSR-FM Interview w/Randy Now, Trenton NJ 4/5/88 1st int as Danzig the band

I wasn’t planning to post this today, but Randy Now (legendary booking agent of City Gardens) asked me for it. We all owe people like Randy and Sacramento’s own Stewart Katz a huge debt of gratitude. They were the promoters who found venues and booked punk bands into those venues back when no one else would, which “trailblazed” a circuit of clubs that allowed bands like Black Flag, D.O.A., DKs and others to tour the United States in the very early 1980’s. And Randy did all of this on top of being a mail carrier during the day!
In this interview, Randy mentions that Glenn had not done an interview for a long time. I assume this is the first interview as the band Danzig. Randy also booked Danzig(the band)’s first show ever at City Gardens the next month, in May of 1988. You can find that City Gardens set on sacramento music archive as well.
Now, if Glenn would just pick up the damned phone…

Frightwig- 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca 4/2/88 xfer f/? gen VHS tape San Francisco Punk

It’s time for the weekly Patreon Voter’s Choice! This was the second week of “Pick a Gilman Video” but the available bands to vote on (starting letters E through M) were so obscure, I hadn’t even heard of a couple of them! Yeastie Girls- Julia Morgan Theater, Berkeley Ca 4/2/88 xfer from soundboard cassette

Today seems like a good day to post a Yeastie Girls show. By the way, I have heard that there is a planned gathering at 5pm at 501 I street in Sacramento today, but I can’t find the post that mentions it now. Maybe this post will get muted as well.
Anyway, this one is unusual in a couple of ways- first, I don’t know where the heck it came from. Most of my other YG shows came from Chris Dodge or Radley, but this one seems to have come later on, from a trader back east. Second, YG are playing a venue that usually put on plays and performances. Pretty cool to have them perform there.

Die Bossa Nova- Nightbreak, San Francisco 4/1/88 transfer from beta master tape

Here’s the Scott Davey video that I should have posted yesterday. I was in a hurry at the studio and uploaded the wrong thing before I left.
I am excited about this one because I finally got the Sony EDV-9500 (The top-of-the-line Beta “Dream Machine”) up and running. Huge shout out to Mark at FET Electronics for the help in getting it working.
Scott was in Die Bossa Nova and there is a bunch of stuff in his collection from the band. More 1980s new wave.
