Red Hot Chili Peppers- Open Air Theater, San Diego Ca 9/13/85 xfer from ? Gen cassette

Big thanks to Angelo Bertini for telling me what to do- Angelo wanted this RHCP tape digitized… aaand it’s not very good. Sorry. I processed the heck out of it to make it listenable. EQ, Rebalance, Dehum, and here it is. It’s no longer awful.

My tape is marked as 2/22/86, but a search on newspapers dot com and the RHCP live website shows that the only time they played this venue at the time was on 9/13/85 when they opened for X. So, I’m listing both dates as possibilities.

Motorhead- California Theatre, San Diego Ca 11/29/85 xfer f/1st or 2nd gen VHS tape Complete Show

You get an early video collections post and a late audio one today. I think this one is pretty rare- Megadeth (opener) is on YT but I don’t see this one.

I am still having some issues with the lossless VHS transfer setup- I think I will set up a 2nd one and start using that, then wipe/reinstall everything for this one. The big issue is with stutters- it will hang up and then speed up for a half second. Let me know if you see any. I did see a blast of diginoise at the 14 min mark. I will end up re-doing this one anyway to see if I can make adjustments in virtualdub to help with the brightness/over exposure. When it is like this, it is usually impossible to fix.

This is from Chris Eng’s collection. I think I remember him telling me that even though taper Cliff Cunningham did not trade, he met with him and copied from his tape. There are some signs of generation loss so I can’t tell if this is a 1st gen or a copy from Cliff’s safety copy. Anyway, new old Motorhead!

This one is sentimental to me since Motorhead came to Sacramento a couple days later and destroyed my hearing at Oasis Ballroom. Imagine all of those cabinets in the Oasis. Insanity.

Samhain- Wabash Hall, San Diego Ca 5/2/85 xfer from 1st gen VHS tape enhanced

Here’s a bonus post for you today, from our friends at “frenchonion soupandkittylitter”. They have sourced a 1st gen VHS from Chris Eng’s collection of the Samhain-wabash hall show. This is much better quality than I have ever seen. Hurry up with your youtube downloaders and snag this one before mr. evilive bans this from youtube. Enjoy!

Venom- California Theater, San Diego Ca 4/18/85 xfer from 1st gen VHS tape enhanced Black Metal

Here’s one from Chris Eng’s collection that he did not tape, but he got it from Cliff Cunningham, the guy who filmed it. Best quality I have seen of this one- thanks Cliff and Chris! I think that this is the only video footage of Venom on the Ultimate Revenge Tour- the official release had Venom footage from the UK.
