Riot- Wolfgang’s, San Francisco Ca. 12/27/83 xfer from master tape R.I.P Mark Reale Rhett Forrester

This is one from Tour Manager Doug’s collection that I did first- I have always been a big fan of early Riot, but never got to see them. I lost interest a bit after 1988, but those early records are classic. I was just a year or 2 too young to make it to SF to see this one. Would have loved to been there.

I looked online, trying to find a good “in concert” picture of Riot with Rhett and there weren’t many out there. I did read up a bit on Rhett’s life after Riot- I heard that he was murdered in a gang fight, but I was mistaken on that. Totally random and tragic.

This is a totally different recording than the one that was released on the Riot Live Archives box set. That recording has a lot of audience noise- I like this one better. I did EQ the heck out of it to tone down the highs and get the bass up in the mix. That low end rumble is a bit distracting. I might re-do this one and post again.

Riot- Nassau Coliseum, Uniondale NY 5/2/81 xfer from unknown gen audio cassette Hard Rock Metal Band

This one is not good quality. I did my best to EQ the distortion out while making it somewhat listenable, but any time I have a chance to post a “not on youtube” Riot set with Guy Speranza on vocals, I’m gonna do it. And I’ll spend way too much time trying to make it sound decent.

I got this one in a tape trade with Ron Quintana back in the 80s. I think he had more Riot w/ Speranza that I never got before he quit trading. I wish those would pop up online someday…

This show takes place after Fire Down Under is recorded, but the guy introducing the band makes it sound like it hasn’t been released yet. Wikipedia shows February 1981 release. The set is heavy on the first 2 albums. I did hear “Don’t Hold Back”

And while doing research on all that above, I discovered that a Japanese pop artist covered “Warrior” with Japanese lyrics. Awesome and bizarre!
