No Doubt- Arco Arena, Sacramento Ca 4/15/97 xfer from 8mm master tape enhanced Gwen Stefani

Man, nothing like getting home from a show late, getting to bed at 1am, and then having back pain wake you up at 6. When I was a kid, I always wondered why old people were so grouchy. Now I know. Getting older is no joke.
Anyway, I had a rare day off yesterday with kids in school- it happens about once a year. I was organizing discs onto spindles and realized that I totally forgot about this project.
My good friend Gary Shurtleff (fromthenosebleeds on YT) asked me to digitize most of his 8mm masters last summer. He told me that I could post all Sacramento-related stuff to the archive as a thank you. Here is the first one- expect to see more of these over the next couple months.

No Doubt- KROQ Almost Acoustic Xmas, Universal Amp, Ca 12/17/95 Xfer from FM DAT Master Audio w/Int

If you think that my posts here are totally random, you are right. Over the next few weeks, you will be getting full sets of all bands who played the KROQ Almost Acoustic Xmas, directly off of the DAT master tape. Why? Well, audio to video synch wizard king bean asked for a couple of sets from the weekend of shows, and it just made sense to run the entire set of DATs and archive then now…. especially since they were DIC brand (a little taper humor for the nerds out there).
I moved back to Sacramento over Thanksgiving weekend of 1995, and this took place a month afterwards. HUGE thanks to Kevin Haynes for taping this for me, and then sending the DAT masters to me. What a guy.
There are other posts of this show on YT, but I posted this anyway because 1. this has known lineage, and that lineage is DAT and 2. The other version doesn’t have the most dickish, inappropriate interview ever courtesy of “Mr Birchem”(Adam Carrola). You’re gonna want to shower to get the ICK off of you after listening to the interview. It’s not even funny.

No Doubt- Spanky’s Cafe, Riverside Ca 2/3/90 xfer f/2nd gen VHS tape 3 versions Gwen Stefani

It has been fun working through Todd Nakamine’s VHS tapes. This one is one that I copied for him back in the 90s, and then my copy went missing.

There is a reason why this one went uncirculated for so long.. because you can’t see anything! I spent way too much time trying to make it viewable but I don’t think it’s much better. I worked up 3 versions for you by using the filters in virtualdub to attempt to help:

  1. High brightness, High contrast
  2. High brightness only
  3. No adjustments
You can see the band when someone takes a picture and the image burns into the camera for a second. At least the sound isn’t bad…

If you hate the first version, forward it 20 minutes to the next one.
