Sacramento friends should like this one. This has been online for years, but this is a much better looking and sounding version. It’s a lossless transfer right off of the TV Umatic Master tape, so it doesn’t get much better than this. The quality really kicks in at about 7 minutes.

As we prepare for the Jerry Perry benefit show later this month, Marc Malakie has generously loaned us his bag O’ tapes to the archive.
Here it is, in his words:

This is not the soundtrack from the video I shot- this is a separate recording of the same show, recorded with a Marantz PMD430 (like a Sony D5) and 2 Nakamichi CM300 mics. Sounds good. ALso for Marc Malakie, wherever he is.
Hi, this one is for Marc Malakie- we ran into each other at Old Ironsides last night and we chatted about the old days. He was the biggest fan of Kai Kln’s early stuff! Please tag the band since I am not fb friends with them. A funny side note about this show- they were opening for Blue Oyster Cult and since it was in the bootlegging glory days of the early 90s, they FREAKED OUT about my camera. I was trying to explain to them that I did not even want to video their band, but they wanted the camera out of there. So, it was a quick 30min and bail after Kai Kln’s set.

Here is the first out of 2 Kai Kln appearances on Sacto Active Rock in 1991. I posted the 2nd one a couple weeks back. That shows you how popular the band was at the time. They were THE BAND in Sacramento at the time- packing clubs, opening big shows. infectious energy around the band.
Thankfully, there is no caroling in this one. Just absolute ripping.

Live at the Cattle Club. Video from the collection of Jerry Perry. Gene had quit the band for the umpteenth time before this gig and this was his return show. Scott built a coffin and Gene was inside with his guitar already plugged in. James Telles pranced on-stage all glam-rocked out as the lead singer of their/his new band, My Little Pony and acts like an idiot. Scott pulls out a fake pistol from his makeshift holster and shoots Telles. Telles falls into the audience while Gene starts playing from inside the coffin. He kicks open the lid as the band rips into the tune – a resurrection of sorts.
