Bettie Serveert- Great American Music Hall, San Francisco 10/16/93 DAT Clone xfer Full show

Happy Monday everyone- continuing to clear out my hard drive transfer backlog. Here is one that Jake Roberts taped- he was one of 5 or so people who were early Uncle Tupelo tapers (Me, Pemberton, Mcinnis, him, and the guy in bloomington in) who also did some other shows locally. I think he had either sonic studios or coresound mics without the bass rolloff because a lot of the audience recordings are super bassy, as this one is. But once again, uncirculated online.

Alex Chilton- Great American Music Hall, San Francisco 7/15/92 xfer f/ DAT Aud Master Live Big Star

Alex Chilton opened the 2nd night of Robyn Hitchcock at the GAMH. I had never heard his music before (I was a latecomer to Big Star etc like most people). In fact, my memory is hazy on this but I think AC opened the first night as well, and I did not tape but liked it a lot. It was only later that I learned of his legendary stature with Big Star and Box Tops.
Sounds pretty good, better than the hitchcock recordings from that run.

Robyn Hitchcock and the Egyptians- Great American Music Hall, San Francisco 7/15/92 DAT Master Xfer

I wish I remembered more about this show- it was the 2nd show of a 2 night run, and they only repeated 1 song between the 2 shows. This one must have been added on after the first one sold out, because it clearly sounds better which means a better seat from which to tape. I like this set better- any set with an acapella version of Kung Fu Fighting automatically wins!

Robyn Hitchcock and the Egyptians- Great American Music Hall, SF 7/14/92 xfer f/ DAT Master Nak Mic

I don’t know if anyone has noticed, but I am back to uploading my DATs in order. Here is D25, Robyn Hitchcock at GAMH. I thought this one sounded awful when I first taped it, but it isn’t that bad. I was bummed because I had expected to be on the floor to tape the show, but that was reserved assigned seating only (I think I am remembering this right). I taped from the balcony which isn’t nearly as good of a location. It sounds fine.

Jonathan Segel- Great American Music Hall, San Francisco 5/25/90 Part 1 Camper Van Beethoven

Jonathan opened for Robyn Hitchcock (if my memory and tape list serve me correctly) and it was a great show. Mostly solo stuff from his “storytelling” 2LP set, with a CVB song or two in there for good measure. Taped with the old Aiwa CV80 8mm camcorder and with Sony ECM909 mic velcro’d on the top. Please check out my youtube channel. I have 100’s of videos, most of them multicams and all of them masters (except 2).

Henry Rollins- Great American Music Hall, San Francisco 7/2/89 Enhanced with Sony Pro Walkman Audio

Here is another video that never really saw the light of day because it had issues. I had a problem with my mic that day, so the original audio on the video is super low and has some electrical interference. With the help of Derek Purtell (and my enhancements in Adobe Premiere/neat video), we finally were able to make this watchable/listenable!

Jonathan Segel and David Immergluck- Great American Music Hall,SF 6/1/89 full set xfer f/JES Archive

The first of the month is always a bit challenging for the On This Date in History project. There are tons of listings that show as “6/1/xx” by default because they were done sometime in June with no specific date. There was more than one show I selected to post today that turned out to be a non-specific date. First world problems, right?
Anyway, I think this one was really performed on June 1. This was a benefit show at GAMH for Project Open Hand, which generated funds for the AIDS Meals on Wheels organization. Great cause.
Alias Records released a CD with some of the performances from this night, but they included only 1 song from each artist. This is Jonathan and David’s full 4 song set from that night. The final track, Love’s Not Lost, was included on the Alias release. There were tons of great artists on the CD including live performances from Chuck Prophet, Penelope Houston, and Alex Chilton.
