Civil War Rust- Vinnie’s Bar and Grill, Concord Ca. 12/15/18 Multicam Live

I saw Civil War Rust for the first time at Casa de Chaos and they grabbed me right away. They released the EXCELLENT Help Wanted album a short time after, and they became my favorite “bay area” band.
I was cursed to never see them, or video them properly. They would always play at times when it was impossible for me to get away for shows (Thanksgiving, Valentines Day). Then they played TIMFest- I was finally going to see them in a good venue! Well, the show was moved to a house party where everyone thought I was a middle aged narc. D’oh.
Then the appeared to break up, or at least go into hibernation for a while. They re-emerged late last year with a new bass player & drummer, and new songs! I went to this show with Ground Chuck and Cory Wiegert. I was late and hauled ass at 80mph all the way to Concord- no bathroom breaks. I handed the door lady a fistful of ones and 5’s and ran into the venue to set up. I learned later that I underpaid… whoops! I got my cameras set up about 30 seconds before they started. Still turned out OK!

Anal Mucus- Time Out Sports Bar, Concord 12/25/04 Mini DVD Master-DVD Mick Mucus Fuzz Attack

Happy Holidays everyone! So I really had to stretch to find an On This Date post for 12/25. I had exactly one show to choose from- Anal Mucus. So this is my gift to you this holiday season. Anal Mucus.

I would love to hear the conversations that the attendees of this show had with their family and friends. “hey, are you going to Mom’s tonight for the family gathering?” “Nah, I can’t miss ANAL MUCUS on Christmas, man.”

(PSA: I am just joking- I am sure that I have fb friends who were in this band. I just found it humorous. Also, my son woke me up at 6am and then got grumpy and took a nap after opening gifts, leaving me here deliriously wired on caffeine and sleep deprived)

I have all of these mini DVD masters that this guy mailed to me years ago. I can’t remember his name. Ugh, sorry.

Green Day- Rodney Parker’s, 1893 Sagewood Ct, Concord Ca 6/16/91 xfer from master VHS tape enhanced

OK, my “on this day in history” post is taking forever to process, so let’s do this one first today.
I met up with Rodney Parker a few months back and he let me borrow his collection of VHS and 8mm master tapes. He filmed this one back in 1991 when the band played his graduation party and he posted the raw footage to his great bay area punk shows youtube channel about 12 years ago. The video was very dark as the sun set and you could not see the band well after the first few minutes. I tried to enhanced it in Adobe premiere and it didn’t help much… and then I remembered that virtualdub has the ability to adjust brightness and contrast at the source, so that’s what I did. I cranked up the brighgtness, adjusted contrast for the last 11min of the capture and then did the work in adobe. You can actually see them playing now! Sure, it looks like 1980s night vision security footage, but still, you can actually see them.

R.E.M. – Concord Pavilion, Concord Ca 10/20/89 xfer f/Sony WMD6C Sony ECM909 Master Cassette

Thanks to Scott Bradley for telling me what to do! You can also tell me what to do by heading over to Patreon- I will pop the link in comments. When Scott asked for this one, and it made me wonder why I hadn’t posted it yet. I remembered it as a pretty nice, clean recording. It was one of the first tapes done with my D6. I got the D6 less than 2 weeks before this show, so there were no issues that were inherent with the unit… yet.
Then I listened to it. Eek. It was SUPER tinny and had no low end. I was able to EQ it and make it sound decent, but those lawn seats did NOT sound good back in the 80s. My Shoreline tape from 2 nights later had the opposite problem- no high end.
Oh, and even though I am just starting to post after noon today, you get THREE posts today. Buckle up.
