Deathryders- Phono Select, Sacramento Ca 3/23/24 4K UHD Multicam with Schoeps Audio Tales of Terror

There was a great show last weekend at Phono Select. It was supposed to be an outdoor thing, but the weather forced it to take place inside. I can’t say I have ever seen a pit in a record store before, that was interesting.
I filmed 3 of the 4 bands, but this is the only multicamera I did. It mostly went right, except for 2 things- the GH5S looks muddy. It might be the cine-d setting- this is the same exact lens and settings that I used for the Boardwalk show the week before. No idea why it looks like that. Also the gopro on the left side was covered by a band member and there was no way to get over there to fix it before they started, so this is a 3 camera job. No stage so I had to get my GH5S WAY up there in order to film this one.

Joe Fraulob’s birthday Jam- The Boardwalk, Orangevale 3/16/24 4K UHD Gary Holt Exodus Black Sabbath

Bonus post for you- Joe Fraulob (Danzig, Deconstruct, many others) threw a concert last night for his birthday and a ton of people came out, including Gary Holt from Exodus/Slayer. The show was over 2 hours long, so here is an early snippet. Gary came up and played on 2 songs- he was scheduled to only play one, but there were guitar issues during Paranoid, so he stayed up for the Priest cover.
Man, the schoeps sound nice in that room. Looking forward to recording more shows there. Derek Clark and his partner, along with the staff there have completely transformed the club into something… warmer. No dig on Mark, it’s just got that Hawaiian laid back vibe now. I really enjoyed it. They even have tropical/theme drinks for each show!
There were 4 different lineups who played a mini set each. I think I will post each lineup’s set separately. This was part of the sabbath set which featured Joe, Gary, Bobby Real, Ash Hades and Tom Frost.

Joe Fraulob’s birthday Jam-The Boardwalk, Orangevale 3/15/24 4K Black Sabbath set pt 2

After fighting with my ancient Windows 7 PC for a good part of the weekend, I downloaded Vegas 18 so I can finally import/edit files from the new G9ii camera, so expect some sweet schoeps synched vids next weekend. Man, that new camera is NICE.
Here is the last video from Joe Fraulob’s birthday jam a couple months back. This was supposed to be the complete version of the longest section of the night, but for some reason, only the last 30min rendered. I will post up the full hour at some point.
Band is Bobby Real, Ash Hades, Tom Frost along with Joe

Joe Fraulob’s birthday Jam-The Boardwalk, Orangevale 3/16/24 4K Allman Bros James Gang Fleetwood Mac

It’s been a bit since I posted a set from this show, and it has been almost a month since the show took place. This was the first set of the Jam- I walked in during the first song and it took me a bit longer to get the gear ready. Cuts in on the 3rd song of the set.
The members in this part of the jam are: Jerry Woods, Rob Sabino, Kelly Smith, Johnny Eye.

Tracks:
Midnight Rider (Allman Brothers) w/Guy Jones on Vocals
Funk 49 (James Gang)
Oh Well (Fleetwood Mac)

I still have 1 or 2 parts of this to post- it was a long show! More next weekend, probably.

Pure Trash- Goldfield Trading Post, Roseville Ca. 2/16/24 4K UHD w/ Rode Videomic Pro Audio Pop Punk

Locals only video weekend continues. Pure trash is based here in Sac, and with a name like that, I was expecting loud and angry hardcore. They were melodic and pop punky with 1 main lead vocalist and friend Dean Crist playing bass and doing the harmony vocals. Good stuff!
Funny side story- I went up to the band’s merch table and asked one of the guys if he minded if I video’d. He told me “we already have a video guy”. I was like “OK whatever”, then he came back and told me I could video if I wanted… glad I did. They were good. If they are on a local bill with Lamonta, I would totally head out.

Jerk! – Goldfield Trading Post, Roseville Ca 2/16/24 4K UHD w/ Rode Videomic Pro Las Vegas pop punk

Jerk! are a punk band from Las Vegas- I think they played Sac before, at the Cafe Colonial possibly. They were the opener for Marky Ramone for the tour that came through town last month. Nice guys- they gave me the OK to video their band (they were working merch), and they tried to give permission to film Marky. I have been burned by the “merch guy said it was OK” think before, so I sought out Marky’s manager. Good thing I did…
Lots of “whoah ohs” in the Jerk! repertoire, so if that is your thing, check it out.

Screaming Bloody Marys- Goldfield Trading Post, Roseville Ca. 2/16/24 4K UHD w/ Rode Audio

Busy day, late post. Screaming Bloody Marys have been around since at least 1991, when they put out a single on my ex-brother in law’s label Sympathy for the Record Industry. They Were a San Francisco-based band, but guitar/vocalist Dave Dalton moved up to Sacramento somewhat recently, so we might get to see them play a bit more often.
I saw them play once back in 2019, opening for the Undead. This show was much better in my opinion. Great catchy 70s style punk/garage stuff. This was the rhythm section’s first show with SBM but you couldn’t tell, it went off without issue.

Marky Ramones Blitzkrieg- Goldfield, Roseville Ca 2/16/24 Schoeps CCM4 full show

This show was so much fun. Marky’s band was perfect- they were not trying to look exactly like the Ramones, but they pulled off their sound really well. A small nitpick would be about the guitar- should have been in your face… but I am sure that this would have compromised the live sound, so I am good with it. The vocalist was so Joey sounding, it was eerie.

Marky Ramone’s Blitzkrieg- Goldfield, Roseville Ca 2/16/24 4K UHD Schoeps Audio 1st 3 songs Ramones

Before I start bagging on the situation, I must say that Marky and the band were amazing. This is the closest you can get to seeing the Ramones in 2024. I can’t believe that Marky can do 85 minute punk rock sets every night, at 71 years old! Just amazing.
OK, so the Goldfield staff were cool as usual. Thanks to Chad for bringing the show to town. I video’d all of the openers with permission, but I had a hard time getting the OK from Marky. I asked the merch guy, who happened to be in the band Jerk! and he thought it would be ok to film him, but I have been burned on that before.
At the last minute, thanks to Eddie Jorgensen, I was able to ask the manager for video permission. His reply? “You can do the first 3 songs”… the ol’ first 3 songs rule was dreamed up by the makeup and hair spray crowd for photographers to get their pictures while they were still looking pretty.. it doesn’t make much sense for a bunch of 50+ dudes in a punk band. I complied, but found it funny.
3 songs equals about 6 minutes in Ramones time, so here you go. In the span of 6 minutes, I had 2 things go wrong- they played loud enough to make the floor vibrate, so it is “vibraty” for a song or so until I pop the camera up on the toe of my shoe… and I put in a new battery to film his 3 songs, and the battery almost immediately poops the bed. So, there is a cut a couple minutes in. Fastest battery change ever!
If you want to hear the entire show, come back tomorrow.
