Unprovoked- Louie’s Cocktail Lounge, Rancho Cordova Ca 5/4/24 Lumix G9ii 4K UHD w/Schoeps Audio

I already talked of the awesome atmosphere that Louie’s provided, but if you missed it, here it is again:
I had never been to Louie’s, but it is one of those OLD neighborhood bars that have been around for as long as I can remember. How old? Well, I can’t find that info online but they have not one but TWO bingo nights each week! I ordered a drink (Jack & Coke) which was about 75% jack, 25% coke. Even the melted ice tasted like Jack Daniels, until a drunk guy stumbled over and knocked the plastic cup (no glass-the bar clearly knows their clientele) on the ground. $8 for the alcohol content of 3 drinks in other bars- great value!
On to the venue side of the club- it was way better than I expected. They have a proper stage, lighting and PA. They have one of those black and white checkerboard floors, like the press club used to have. The PA could not quite keep up with Alex’ guitar volume, but it didn’t sound bad at all. The audio level on this is a bit low, but I did not have time to fix it if I wanted to post today. Still need to check the schoeps audio to see if this warrants a repost later.
It was also nice catching up with my long-time friend Loren Scott. We chatted right up until Unprovoked played- he plays bass in the band. I have been meaning to see the band play for years, and vocalist Darren Chaney had laryngitis! He had no voice when I spoke to him. Then they went on and he sounded fine- it was wild. If it was me, I would just squeak myself through the set.
Oh, one last thing- since the drinks were so strong, this was the drunkest crowd I have ever seen. People were stumbling everywhere. After the Accused finished and the house lights came up, this one long-haired metal dude was standing there (well, trying to stand), staring at his hands. He apparently thought that his fingernails were painted in a shade of black (metal approved), but they were instead painted a beautiful shade of blue. Perfect ending to the night. I will definitely come back to Louie’s for another show!

Accused A.D.- Louie’s Cocktail Lounge, Rancho Cordova Ca 5/4/24 4K UHD Rode Pro Stereo Audio G9ii

This might be a long post. After missing the Punk in the Park and Omega Fest shows yesterday(I had planned to cut over early evening to Omega), I was able to get the kids to bed in time to head over to Louie’s Cocktail Lounge to see Unprovoked and Accused A.D.

Rich Kids on LSD- Bottom of the Hill, San Francisco Ca 5/2/24 4K UHD 2 camera mix schoeps Audio RKL

Since RKL is doing a run of shows through California next month, I’ll post this and 1 or 2 more older shows of theirs so you call can get prepared. Here is the 2nd night of the Bottom of the Hill shows last May with former vocalist Tony Foresta. No gopro angles for this show. Plus, I did not get time to plug into the soundboard and there is no multitrack. You get the G9ii angle I was operating along with the GH5S which I clamped to the plywood shelf at the mixing board. Audio is with the Schoeps, but sound was not great from where I was standing. Oh well, at least it is a 2 camera of the complete 2nd night show.

Cigar- Bottom Of the Hill, San Francisco Ca 5/2/24 4K UHD Multicam with Schoeps Audio Fat Wreck Punk

Here’s the last multicam from that RKL 2-night run. I gave Shawn my RKL footage from the first night, let’s hope we get a full show video that looks like the 1 song edit for Blocked Out that’s up on instagram.
Cigar were really great- they pull off those songs so well live. It was fun to see. I did not get a board mix of the show, so I had to do some work to get the schoeps to sound decent. The good video spot is in an audio dead spot in the room. Sounds good enough to enjoy.

Western Addiction- Bottom of the Hill, San Francisco Ca 5/2/24 4K UHD Multicam w/Schoeps Rode audio

This 2 night run of RKL shows had the best lineups I have ever seen. Unfortunately, I did not get a chance to record a soundboard source on night 2. First I was busy setting up cameras and then the soundman was busy talking to someone so there was no chance to plug in. So audience audio only for these sets.. which would typically be fine with the schoeps but the mix in the room was not great. I was talking to Shawn (RKL TM) and bottom of the hill has this new sound system which creates some crazy dead spots in the room… one of which happens to be located right where I usually video. I think Tromster used the Rode mic located in the back of the room for the audio source here. Speaking of the back of the room camera, I figured out how to wedge a 5th camera into the club- I used a clamp on the plywood in the soundboard area. It wouldn’t level/point at the band so I used binder paper on one side of the clamp to get the angle right. Total MacGyver shot.

RKL- Bottom of the Hill, San Francisco 5/1/24 4K Multicam Multitrack audio FULL SET Rich Kids on LSD

Here is a super special one for you all today. RKL’s TM (Shawn) was kind enough to send me his multitrack mix of RKL’s set from night 1 of their 2 night run at Bottom of the Hill earlier this year. Not only that, he also gifted me with 3 gopro angles. Aside from the Santa Barbara live stream, this is the best of the 2024 RKL run imho. Thanks Shawn!

Seized Up- Bottom of the Hill, San Francisco Ca 5/1/24 4K UHD Multicam with Matrix audio B’LAST!

Here was the surprise of the 1st night of the RKL SF shows. I saw that Seized up was added to the bill and it sounded vaguely familiar, but it didn’t click with me until the day of the show. This is the new-ish band with Cliff from B’LAST! on vocals, and members of Good Riddance, The Distillers and Fast Asleep rounding out the band. They sound a lot like B’Last! to me.
The board mix was not rebalance-able, so I matrixed it with my Schoeps audio. Came out alright!
I could not get one of the gopros to power on for this set, so only 3 cameras on this one.

Cigar- Bottom Of The Hill, San Francisco, CA 5/1/24 4K UHD Multicam Soundboard Audio Fat Wreck Punk

OK, since Estebo asked for it, let’s do this one today…
I bought tickets for both nights of the return of RKL at Bottom of the Hill. I could not believe the openers that were announced after I had bought them- Cigar both nights(I have always wanted to see them), Seized Up (Cliff from B’last’s new band), and Western Addiction. What a nice surprise! Probably the best “band announced after I bought tickets” scenario other than The Misfits at Psycho fest a few years back…
Anyway, Cigar were fantastic. Their songs are pretty technical, so it is always interesting to see if they can pull it off live. They did and then some- holy crap, what a talented buch of guys and the perfect opener for a band like RKL. So happy to see them- twice!
Thanks to Shawn (TM) for the help with access to band, soundboard, etc. It turned out pretty good!

Whoreified- Phono Select, Sacramento Ca. 3/24/24 4K UHD w/Rode Videomic Pro Audio

Getting this one out early today to give you time to check them out… and to make plans to see Whoreified (great name btw), along with The Pist, DOVE, Holehog, and Aruspex at tge Cafe Colonial tonight. I love it when bills have a mix of younger and older bands- it brings a lot of people together who wouldn’t usually hang out.
The band opened up the Phono Select Deathryders show last month and played a short 15 minute set. Very riot grrl sounding.

The Government- Phono Select, Sacramento Ca. 3/24/24 4K UHD with schoeps audio hardcore punk

Last video post for the weekend and it’s a recent master recording. This was the middle band of that last Phono Select show with Deathryders. I don’t know much about them, except that they are from the bay area and they are not on discogs, from what I can find. This one is a bit darker than the rest since they turned out most of the lights for the set. First time I had seen a pit at Phono- I hope no records were damaged.
